I have an SS pullet and I got her because I'd read that the breed is good in colder climates!

I have 2 Speckled Sussex hens... they are coming on 5 months old. Bought straight run from Cackle Hatchery and got mostly roosters (ordered 5, sent 6, 2 hens 4 roos). I have decided it is not a breed that interests me long term. The hens are nice birds but the roosters are too aggressive. Don't know where you are exactly, and California a big state, and there is a quarantine for Newcastle's going on in So Cal right now, so maybe not a good time to look for replacement birds. I am not in the quarantine area, but you might be...

Hmmmmm. How is the temperament of the welsummer?

She is probably the least friendly of my three..curious and likes to supervise what I am doing out in the yard but never does the submissive squat like the other two do to me. She is loud and likes to crab at me when she wants to free range. Beautiful girl, free ranges and forages well. I don't handle my girls often, just a pat when they squat and to check them over once in a while. I like her, she is a pretty girl and her eggs are terra cotta colored with dark speckles. She is in the background on the chair
