Seems like it took FOREVER!!

Whoa! That's a big egg! One of my soft ones this morning was broken and partially eaten too. I went back out this afternoon and found 7 more eggs. One was on the ground with a little hole in it like someone pecked at it. It was also weird colored. Mostly off whitish. Wondering if its the little bantam but I don't know how big her eggs should be. I guess I thought hers would be tinier. Including the 2 soft eggs, today's total is 10. We have 11 girls now. Just wish I knew if the problem is too little calcium or inexperience.

So you were just too early for them! Great! With all the good ones you are getting, I'm thinking inexperience. I used to not get any before leaving for work, but Friday I had one, today I had 2. Will be home in a couple more hours to see how many total for the day.

Oh, I also got a really light colored one the other day (I thought it was from a silkie, but also bigger than expected) and it was rough all over, and had been pecked once. I put it in my carton, and tried to use it a few days later and it was not as fluid as normal. I guess the little peck hole in it caused it to gel a little more. I tossed it. If you are going to use yours, cover the hole or use it quickly.

One of our new ones is a 2 yr old araucauna silkie mix. Previous owner said she laid blue eggs. She hadn't laid since tues. (Laid one in the cage on her way to me) idk. Maybe the one with the hole is hers. I have more eggs than I can use atm. I tossed it out in the corn field. My husband apparently thinks the little eggs are weird. He doesn't want to eat them. (He eats A LOT of eggs) He actually told a friend of ours who has chickens that we didn't have enough eggs. They sent him home with a dozen large brown eggs. I have about 3 1/2 dozen eggs from our own flock in the fridge. Smh. He claims to be really smart. I'm gonna need to see proof.

I had my first egg to day will have to wait and see if I get any more to day need to get nest boxes mate now what dose every 1 put in there best boxes

I have straw in their coop, but pine shavings in the nest box. They almost always lay in the nest box. I had read that its better to have different materials in both places so they know the difference.

I have pine shavings in my nest boxes. Certainly nothing wrong with straw. I just don't have straw readily available.

Edit* I just realized you got your first egg. Congrats!!!
