Hi! I have a 4yr old pekin duck that has had seizures since 16weeks old. We believe from trauma or vit deficiency. Lately her seizures are more frequent and she seems to be more sluggish then normal. I know she's older and everyday we have her with us is a good day. We give her brewers yeast and vit b complex injections. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to make her more comfortable? Thanks!

What do you mean by seizures i had a duck ones that would spazz her head behind her when she was overly stresses. It is hard to explain what she did but it would only happen if she was in a stressful situation. when it happened i just had to calm her down by not moving and saying shes okay and she would stop and continue on. I would also give them niacin i do mine in powered form and I also do liquid b but i get the liquid form and put it on their food. I give them niacin and liquid be about two to three times a day. I have dog dishes i put their food in and i fill it up with water and mix the liquid b in the food water and the niacin that way when they are eating and drinking they are guaranteed to get the medicine in their system. also make sure that they always get clean water and have a clean pen so they are not siting in their poop. more description on what the seizure looks like would help and look at the tail feathers if they are always point downwards that means there is a problem with her health but if they are up and wagging it means she is happy if you think shes in pain you could give her medicine here is a link to a post about pain meds in ducks https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/aspirin-dose-for-ducks.1308954/#post-21334799

Thank you for the reply and for the link about pain, as stated above she has seizures, uncontrollable movement of her entire body that lasts for maybe 30 seconds. We give her vit b complex injections and brewers yeast. I can't mix niacin in the water as I have a mixed flock. Water is refreshed daily and they have 2 baby pools to swim in. Im looking to see if anyone has other suggestions to make her more comfortable.

Hello,
We are experiencing something weird with our duck as well. She is an Appleyard female. We haven't had her long, maybe 6 months. But all of a sudden she is being found flipped over on her back, and her neck crooked around like she's dead! I was outside the first time it happened. I thought for sure my dog got her, as I didn't actually see what happened with my eye's, I just heard it. There was a loud commotion and she was flipped over. Here eyes were crying! We quickly got her upright and she seemed fine. But again yesterday we found her flipped over again and our dog was inside, so I know it wasn't her. I'm stumped! I have had ducks for years, amd never had issues like this. She's a good breed, and she's young. She has not started laying just yet, but her sister isn't either.
If anyone can shed some advice, please help!
Thank you all

This is an old thread, my friend. I'd you need help, please make your own thread for personalised answers.

What feed is she on? Can you get photos of her?
Is a vet an option?

All of my ducks are on "All flock crumble" along with cracked corn. I have some photos before it started happening. But I will get some more and upload here. We don't have any vets that treat ducks locally.

Do you supplement niacin in the feed?
How much cracked corn do they get?
I'm wondering two things, whether this could be a nutritional deficiency, or a trauma issue- if she had somehow obtained a head injury, that could cause seizures.

Does she have any issues walking, any limp or balance problems? Any injuries or abnormalities you can see?
For now, I would cease all treats, this includes the corn, which should only make up about 10% of her diet. If she's getting more than that, she may not be getting the needed nutrients of the feed.

We have seen seizures in ducks that are lacking in niacin so just to rule out that is the issue I'd start her on Liquid B Complex [TSC] it will say injectable but we use it orally 1 ml over a small amount of a tasty treat so you know she is getting the full dose. It can take up to a week to see results sometime longer sometimes shorter. But the liquid B complex is the best usually TSC carries durvet brand. If she isn't eating then we can give you info on how to give it by mouth. I'd def get her started ASAP.
