Self Blue Cochins from Ideal

Here is Shadow, who is a bantam self blue Cochin from Ideal.

i dont have pics of mine, but they look like speckledhen's, it seems like theyre leg feathers arent ass full and big as the other cochin varieties from ideal

Wow...Shadow has babies?? Time does fly, doesn't it...I remember when you still weren't sure if Shadow was a pullet or cockerel

Yup, Shadow is about a year and a half old. This was her first broody spell and she did great. Let her kid go at about 8 weeks old and is laying again. Her foot feathering is not great and she's very small, even for a bantam Cochin, IMO, but she's a fun girl.

My girl Misty looks a lot like shadow. Not very good leg feathering. I did breed her to my frizzle Roo and the offspring have great feathering. HOWEVER, I expected all the next generation to be black (roo was a red frizzle.) The cockerel I kept is black with silver and gold lacing. Very pretty, but I suspect the blue (diluting) gene was masking some other colors. I'll try to get some blues in the next generation, because these are much nicer looking birds than the mom (the one from Ideal.)
