Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

DITTO! I have said it over and over. This year I have been hatching some splash and trust me....it is near impossible at a certain point. When they hatch of course I can tell but a few weeks, month or so, they do look very lavender. Give them a few more weeks and you see the dark splotches as the splash displays. I should take some pictures side by side at different stages.

Even I think I shouldn't have done this. I was believing it would be so easy to watch them but even for me you have to take a double take. I am not crossing but talking two different varieties. I can only imagine the mess when they are a lavender split to blue or splash. wink There lies the problem.

I have some splash chicks that look JUST like lavender chicks! Im still waiting for them to turn splash! lol Glad to know that they arent lavender. Ohh and by the way, you have beautiful birds bren!

Thanks for the compliment. I am just very lucky to have been part of this wonder adventure into a new variety!

Back from Illinois! Here is what I brought back with me

This roo was one of the chickens that she said was from you Bren.
I think he is Beautiful! She said he is about 2.5 years old. Those are his hens behind him. They are looking a little rough right now, he is a pretty busy guy

I am really looking forward to breeding him to some of Natalies splits that I have under my broody

I have some young splashes and can see why it's not wise to breed Lav to splash! Wow, that would be confusing to figure out in chicks!

Heyy brenda, do you know any silkie breeders in San antonio? I'm going to sea world and sea water park on the 29 th and I was hoping that I could pick up some birds on the way!

we may go to the big Dallas flea market too but probably not. If we do go to the big flea market, would you meet me there with some black blue or splash chicks? I hope we to dallas! It would be great to meet you! How much do you sell eggs and chicks anyways?

There are two smaller ones in Decatur each year I always attend since that is VERY near my farm. One is usually in Septmember while the other is October or November. I would have to check. I go to Shawnee Oklahoma in December each year. That is a large very nice show to attend too. I go to the stock show in Ft. Worth in January and then sometimes head out west to a couple of smaller ones. From there I just see what I might like to go to....Silkies Nationals is in California this year but that is a bit far for me to head. Okalahoma, Kansas, La, Missouri, even once to Tn. So it just depends.

The VERY SAD

thing about us here is Texas showing, the shows are closed to out of state birds which makes them smaller and when it comes to Texas there are a lot less Silkies than in most other states.

Not trying to hijack this thread but....

I wanted you guys to know that I have a small waterer to use in the shipping boxes when shipping live birds. I know that no one is shipping now because of the heat, but you might want to try them this fall.

I'm not trying to make $$ on them...just enough to cover the expenses. I have them in the "everything else for sale" section. The small priority flat rate box is $4.95 and that will hold a bunch. If you only want one or two, I could send them first class mail.

I'm so hoping that these may help some birds arrive safely at their destination!!

Has anyone ever tried Napa nectors to ship for liquids? It's a sweet solution of electrolites in a jello form??? Just curious because we use those for shipping live mice at work- and it lasts a long time during shipment-I know of course that mice dont need as much as birds but I was thinking chicks and such for day olds and a tad older????
