Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

I think we have learned that "we" can call a color by whatever hobby name we like, but when it comes to getting it recognized by the ABA/APA they will have the final word as to what the color will be called.

AS usual I have been MIA for a while. I feel as though I dont know anything about Lav an Pi now lol

Can someone tell me if this bird is the right color to be considered real PI?

If they are more buff than Lav I wonder if I am selecting the right ones or not recognizing the right colors.

Could someone post some real PI pics I will post the ones I have and would love comments as to whether they are correct in coloring or not.

Also I hatch a lot of those funky greys with the light body and darker head, they are really a neat combo of colors I almost want to work on them to get the body to be that light color and the darker head more pronounced.

Are these colors correct or is there too much lav in them?

Thank you in advance

many may disagree, but I started with a few hatchery lavs I had ordered them to sell but kept 3 that had the darkest skin and a very rich color that I liked. I later got some much higher quality from Bren and George and used my hatchery birds in my breeding program to inforce a darker skin color and a richer lav color. The second generation yeilded me with beter birds to work with and now I have sucessfully have the color I wanted with the big crests and nice type.

here is a pic of the hen I kept from ideal and used in my program. She had a great personality and was one of my absolute favoritres, unfortunatly she was killed by a coon along with some great lavs and pi when I (such an idiot) did not close the coop door properly and a coon got in.

her is a pic of her as you can see she has a very small crest and is hatchery quality all the way but such nice lav color! I got her 3 years ago (maybe 4) so I think the ones they have are probably nicer now.

She is very pretty, I love the lavender color on all birds.

I was planning on getting about 25 chicks, unsexed, and keep them best rooster and 4-5 hens. I'm not looking for the best birds in North America or anything, just something to play with a little!

Hi Guys!

We were just sitting in the yard enjoying one of the few non rain days in January in Florida today.

Here is a picture of a lavender Boy that is going to live with Jen...

Oh he is so, so, so, so pretty. I love the way his feathers swirl around his neck!

ENJOY!
