Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

More poor Lavender pair is lost!?!?!

They should be here this morning. I called the post office b/c they hadn't called me yet and they don't have them. The post master doesn't come in until 7:30 then he will "try to track them down". But with the wind chill it's -13 out there. If they are on the wrong truck they could.... I can't say it....

where or where are my sweet lavenders?
Oh no! Please let us know soon as you find out about them. Worried sick with you ....

Thank you! The postmaster is searching for them... he just called back while I was typing. All express mail is late due to the weather. They expect them to be at the main post office (40 minutes from me in good weather) about 9:30 or 10 (it's 8 am here right now). He says he may be able to go get them for me, but it depends on what time they arrive. He may be the only person at our tiny little post office when they arrive and if so he said he could go on his lunch hour, or I could drive out there. So, back to waiting....

More poor little chickens are still lost

The post office has no idea where they are.... the express mail finally arrived at the main post office around 11 am but no chickens. They are insured, but that won't help keep them warm. I haven't totally lost hope, but... oh, poor little birds! I hope they find them soon.

Last summer I shipped a pair of silkies out and they did not arrive on schedule. I know exactly how you feel. I was a frantic mess. Mine were going from 92 degree NC to 95 degree Atlanta and no one could tell me where they were. Tracking wouldn't update either. I was told if there was dry ice on the plane the chickens would be bumped for the next available flight. They did arrive a day late but alive and well. I hope you have good news soon.

That is a great ending! I hope this story turns out as happy!! One minute I think that I'll get a call at 6 AM tomorrow morning saying they are here alive and well, and the next I think I'll be going through the same 'waiting game' all day again... but thanks for the encouragement!

It wasn't until last year that I found out that a 3rd party carrier such as FedEx handles the delivery of live express shipments between USPS sorting facilities. And as long as the boxes are in FedEx hands the USPS CANNOT locate them. And yes, FedEx can and will bump live shipments for those with dry ice. Then there's the winter storms complicating flights too. I'm sure it isn't much consolation to you but I expect your birds will arrive tomorrow. I would be more concerned if it were hot instead of cold.

My buyer did get a call at 6 am. She was at the PO and back home by 6:30 with my silkies. I know exactly how you're feeling. Just breathe..

Well, we got a call at 8:45 PM last night, right after church ended, that the chickens had just arrived at the main post office warehouse near the airport. My amazingly sweet husband drove 45 min each way to retrieve them (I'm one blessed woman to have such a kind man!!) and both chickens are happy to be out of the shipping box and are doing well despite the frigid temps - it was -10 when they arrived last night. Here they are in their new home. Not a great picture, I'll get some better pictures later, but what do you think? I adore them both - but from a 'critical' standpoint, do the backs seem a little long? Also, not sure if my other silkies are on the larger end of the silkie size scale, but these two seem small of their age - plus the two lavender chicks that survived in a shipment I got of silkie chicks are quite a bit smaller than the others. Is this common?

Great to hear they finally arrived alive and well. So nice of your hubby to make that drive...I'm sure he knew if he was going to get any sleep last night he better go get them! I'm not sure about their confirmation...hard to see in the picture. Do you know if they're related? I'd breed them together if they aren't brother and sister and see how the chicks turn out.

Lavenders are considered "self blue" and porcelains are now "blue cream"? I admit I am getting confused.

Is this what you are talking about? I came across this post this morning labeled as this:

"Lavender Blue Cream (Porcelain) Roo"

What does that even mean!?! Lol Is it Lavender? Blue Cream? Or Porcelain? How can it be all three?
