Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

For me if a one has been pipped for 48 hrs and its the hatch date or the rest of the hatch has commenced then I intercede. After 48 hrs of being pipped the membrane dries and toughens and makes it impossible for the chick to get out on its own. I just helped one a couple of weeks ago that pipped, 48 hrs later still wasn't out. When I peeled some shell I couldn't find the beak. It had turned up in to the wide end of the egg and never would have made it out on its own.

Yea, I've had the "shrinky dink" chicks before and had to soak the membrane off, poor things. Ok, I'll just wait it out.........impatiently.
Thanks for the advice Robin.

Hey i just wanted to say I adore teh silkie in your avater.

yahhhhhhh!!!!! 18 is awesome-congrats There were pictures of all the lav babies from someone elses hatch on my last auction:)
There were some 4 toers that popped up? I dont have 4 toers in my pen but it could have come from 2 generations back from the parents of the pullets I bought two years ago??? Either way I have all my eggs marked and will know who might be throwing them to pull that hen out:-( What a bummer as all my hens have perfect 5 toe spacing-They've all been seperated and I collect their eggs seprately now-so this should only take a few weeks to figure it-either way its all good as the last hatch produced 4 pure 5 beautifully toed lavs:) Im dying to just get a few!!!! I hope this batch throw me a ton:) I wont be hatching my own out again this season:-( Ill be auctioning them off so others can get a shot at them...
