Self Blue (Lavender) Silkie Thread

Bobbi, Bren, Suz (or anyone else)...I need some help/advice with a Lavender split Partridge pullet. She is 7mos old and looking very nice (has your genetics behind her Bren), but I'm not real certian WHAT she will produce if bred to a lavender?? Or should I even attempt to do so? If it's not going to benifit my lav program then please let me know. At this point I'm not sure which direction to go, so any and all advice, info or suggestions would be MOST appreciated.

PS. On a side note, Bobbi your Blue roo I got last year has turned into an amazing young man

Sorry I dont get a chance to get on the thread very much anymore, but will try and stay in touch and post some pics.

Does the pullet have good penciling? If so, bred to a lavender, you will get some lavender partridges (although their penciling may not be as good as they will not inherit the pattern gene from the lavender parent).

If she only has one copy of hte pattern gene, then she may will have some offspring who do not inherit it, and would simply be lavender. However, they may be leaky on gold--hard to say without testing.

Also, the e-allele will make a difference. If the lavender is pure for E, teh offspring will be E/e^b, and you won;t see partridge penciling, even if hte pattern gene is present.

Thank you, heres a pic I took a few mins ago, sorry it's not better, but maybe this will help a bit more than my discription of her. I can take more if needed.

ETA: Is it possible she IS a Lav Partridge? Her body has lavender down and top knot is lavender also, not blue. I put her and a blue together and checked their bums...big difference between the two.

That does not look nearly diluted enough to be lavendar; of course, she could be split, which will not have any affect on the appearance, but the gene can be passed to offspring. Why do you say her crest undercolour is lavender, not blue?

I would not call her partridge, as I see no penciling; just the dark crest.

From what I can see, she has very good type, very nice wings, fairly dark skin. Her tail:body:crest are well balanced. Can't see the foot feathers or toes, so can't comment.

Colourwise, she looks like a buff showing some blue, but the head/crest colour would cause her to place poorly.

If you are sure she is split for lav, I would breed her to a good lavendar, hoping for some good porcelains. I honestly do not know why her head is dark like that since otherwise she seems pretty clear. You could try breeding her to a good clear buff, but no guarantees. I don't think breeding her to a partridge woudll do anything useful.

I so appreciate the info and advice. And thank you for the nice complements as well (blushing). Her feet are gorgeous with excellent toe spacing. When I took the pic it was inside the building, so I'll make it a point to take more tomorrow out in the sunshine and of her feet as well. Yes, I'm sure the dad was lav, will see if I can locate his pic and info for you. Thank you again, will check back in tomorrow w/more pics.

He's just as sweet as can be, perfect w/his ladies and I just ador him. Well at this point ANY help is a big help and I appreciate your reply and info. Would be interesting to see what I end up with, and I believe I'll do as Sonoran suggested, breed to a lav boy and see what happens. I'd love to know what your girl produces if you can mark her eggs some how...especially if she's alot like this little gal. Thank you again, will post more pics when time allows.
