Hi, I'm new here and didn't know where to post this and I looked through other threads and didn't really see a satisfying answer. But what I'm looking for is a breed of chicken that can survive mostly on forage in the woods and is fast and smart enough to evade predators. It doesn't have to be very tame but would like it to lay decent and have a little bit of meat on its bones, also be able to brood its own chicks. Many of the dual purpose breeds seem too slow and docile to escape the predators I have around here, so if anyone can think of a good breed or possibly breeds I could cross that would be a lot of help! Thanks :)

I would say look into gamefowl, like the American Game. They're really good foragers, lay decently, and go broody. The roosters are aggressive and good at protecting their flocks, from what I've heard. And I'm sure the roosters are good to eat if that's your plan for the extra roos.
