Self Serve Egg sales (pic)

That is wonderful that there are still people out there who are trusting and also that there are still people out there that are honest! I also agree that if people are going to steal eggs from you, they probably need them more than I need the 2.00. Anyway, great set-up!

I do the same thing! My neighbors love it. They even bring back the empty cartons. I get $2~doz $3~18 pack.
I have also donated eggs to the "women and childrens" shelter that is close.
I have also decided that if someone needs them that bad they may have them. I have not lost any eggs in the 6 or 7 months that I'e done this.

I live in a rural town in central Fl.

the neighbors that share my back fence are IN the city limits
my property is in the "county"

Where I used to live, someone would have stolen the cash box, broken the sign, and used your eggs to egg your house.
I am glad to be in a small town now.

I was thinking of doing this. An Amish neighbor of mine does the same thing down the rd. The only problem is that I have a very long driveway, and wonder if people would be more inclined to steal if it's further from the house...Idk. I have a long time 'til they start laying, but I want to start thinking about it....I love your set up though. very smart.

I think that is so cool. I'd love to see a sign like that. Where I live, its strictly city, you'd never get that lucky. Cute set-up also.

I'd love to do that, but we live 1/2+ mile up a private lane. The sign would either have to go beneath our mailbox or on the property near the main road. I don't think that would fly.

Hi,

This thread has been very interesting reading! I don't dare sell eggs by my house as I'm sure I'm not allowed as many chickens as I have, but I have seen people in my neighborhood selling vegetables and fruits (mostly tomatoes) with the very same set-up year after year (so I am assuming they haven't had problems) and I live in a surburban/urban neighborhood, being on Long Island, only about 40 miles from NYC. If it were not for other considerations, I would try selling eggs on the "honor system" and see how it goes. But, as a previous poster mentioned, I also have a very long driveway and I don't know if that would have a negative effect.

Good luck in your endeavors!

Wish I lived down there... alas I'll be here the next 21 years.. but we have neighbors showing up with their $2 in hand all the time. Sometimes we run out, luckily the hens keep laying.

We could NEVER do that here. The cooler and all eggs would be gone within 10 minutes... seriously, 10 minutes, maybe 15 if it were after dark!

That is just what I was thinking.....
Unfortunately I was the teenager that was doing the "egging"and it just wouldn't have been the best thing for me to get "paid" and have free ammo.

I could never have that set-up because I still think I may have some of those "wild-oat" days left to pay for!
