Hi all. I'm not a farmer by any stretch. I have 1.6 acres in Oxford, Michigan. In my ongoing effort to become more self-sufficient, chickens are a must have. And besides, it sounds fun. No chickens yet, and I may have to get an ordinance changed, but will hang out and learn all I can.

Hi! I just got started this summer, and it's loads of fun! An acre and 1/2 is a lot of land, and you'll love chickens!!!

Good luck with your plans!

Hi Ron, welcome! Glad to have you with us! 1.6 acres?? Wow, I'd love that much...though I don't think I'd want to trade winters with you, LOL. And you're right...chickens are waaaaay fun! We're only allowed 6 hens here in our little spot, but they give us more than enough eggs for our needs; we end up giving away or donating most of them. Even so, if we had the room and were allowed to, we'd have a lot more than we do

I got chickens as part of an effort to start slowly getting into urban homesteading. I ended up liking them WAY more than I thought. Good luck. I hope you are able to have a flock someday.
