I did not get any law enforcement involved. I was going to wait until tomorrow when the paypal case would be closed. I had sent him several emails and left several voicemails and i told him if i did not hear from him i was taking him to court and that he should just save himself the time of going to small claims court, the trip down here, the extra court fees i was going to sue for and just pay the money. Maybe he got the picture i was not going to let it go. I am glad its over and i got my money. I will not do any other business with him unless its cash.
 
Credit card companies--and this includes PayPal which is not really a credit card--these companies
are not there for your convience. Their sole purpose is to make money. For them. And they do this
from the people that use their service.

When you call (and you will, sooner or later) you get some low level employee who is generally from
some far away land and can seldom speak english, certainly not without such an accent as to be
understandable.

People with the actual ability to make reasonable decisions do not seem to exist in these companies.

I don't do paypal. Burn me once, I'll remember you forever.

I'm less and less a fan of ebay. Their reputation is less that stellar.

My wife is very good at spending money. Years of practice. I believe it was American Express that forced
me to pay some penny ante disputed charge. Don't remember...something under a hundred dollars. They
refused to discuss it. Their way was the only way.

They should of thought it out a bit better.

We were running 20-25 grand a month on that card. That wasn't a misprint. Card had an unholy limit. Paid
in full evey month for years.

They thought annoying me over a few dollars was a going to work?

Yes, I paid it. And closed the account.

She still has a credit card. Just not theirs.
 
I stopped using PAYPAL for this same reason as well as the fact that any disputes that occur always go against the seller no matter who is wrong. I had bad experiences and finally just gave up. Its unfortunate that quite a few sellers demand PAYPAL payment only as it cuts many of us potential buyers out of the deals. All you egg sellers, you might consider other options, try more pre sales so the buyers can get payment to you in a timely fashion.
 
I have read many of the comments that other people have made and i can tell you, PAYPAL, will side with the buyer, many others think that they will review all the evidence and make a fair decission, i will stake my mame on it, in the final resolve PAYPAL, will go against the seller, Please keep us all posted as to the resolve....Best of luck
 
I remember hearing about PayPal BEFORE Ebay bought it. Horror stories, seems (I think) they were following a business model of wiping out, say, 1% of their users, and I mean seizing bank accounts and cleaning 'em out, victims would end up living under a bridge somewhere and utterly unable to fight back. And since it was the go-go early 00's, there was not much understanding or sympathy.

I have, very recently and by which I mean days, considered setting up a PayPal account to sell a few things on Etsy, or write essays and have a "buy me a cup of coffee" PayPal button under each one.

I did some research.

As per a new law for 2011, PayPal will keep track of what you do, and 1099 you for more than 200 transactions per year or more than $20k a year. There's no way I aspire to more than $20k a year these days, but at $3 a "buy me a coffee" transaction, I'd get 1099'd. And that would get me back on the IRS's radar and get my bank account seized, PayPal closed, etc., within somewhere between 3 months and a year or so.

Thank You, PayPal! Thank You, IRS! I almost fell off the wagon there! Thanks for reminding me to keep my life sub-taxable, and to keep it cash, face to face, no names no numbers, please! I almost lined up for the # of the Beast, there!

How can Paypal 1099 you on purchases? Isn't a 1099 supposed to be used to report income? If I am spending money, how can that be 1099'd? I already get a 1099 for my income that's sent to Paypal.

I'm not particularly worried, I don't make anywhere near 200 transactions or exchange 20K in money through that site. But, I am confused how I can get a two 1099s for the same income. I may just transfer my payments that I do get from them right into my regular bank account if I can't use it to buy myself an orange juice from the vending machine once in a while.

ETA: Oh, I see they will 1099 you if you get more than 200 payments. The bad thing is that I have one website that only pays me about a dollar or two a year, but they pay me for each article and sometimes I write about 20 articles for them, so I get 20 payments.

I report everything to the IRS anyway.

I wanted to re-open a yahoo store for my e-books. I really like their system. Only thing is they don't use google checkout. Now I'm not sure what to do. Take a chance that paypal will back me if there's ever a dispute? Or not try to make any money to pay bills?

I have no credit so gotta use something that's already set up. I'm open to suggestions.

(OP: Sorry to hijack your thread. I really am glad this resolved so well, except I would completely never deal with him again. He's a liar and tried to cheat you. He'll find a way to do it again and do it better next time. I also would make sure he was never on your property again.)
 
Yahoo store? I had to look that up... $40 a month for hosting an 1.5% per transaction? Run away, run far far away.

You can get a good host for $15 or less a month an a web address for $15 a year. Then you can stick Google checkout on that site for free. They do charge more per sale though. $0.30+ 3% Whats that, something like $2000 a month in sales before yahoo becomes cheaper. Maybe closer to $1500 in sales... I hate math.

The reason I decided on Yahoo is because the stores have the capability to sell downloadable items (like e-books) in addition to physical items. I especially needed the downloadable items because I made most of my "spare change" selling e-books. Once a person pays, they get a link to download the e-book.

Are you saying there's another place that can do that AND allow me to use google checkout?
