How do you sell your eggs? It's just me and my wife here and we can only eat so many eggs. We've gotten 38 eggs in 22 days, mostly from 4 of our girls. Our fifth gave us her 1 st egg today and when all 6 are laying we will be over run with eggs. We have no one to give any to!

I sell mine to friends at work or around town. Usually for 1.50 to 1.75 a dozen (mine are banty eggs so they're smaller than regular). I have had a hard time getting rid of mine as well, since I was getting as many as 7 dozen a week. My DH eventually gave away 5 dozen to friends when he went out of town for a couple days. My best recommendation is that you start making stuff that has a lot of eggs in it. Think quiche, breakfast casserole, baked goods, homemade noodles (the most popular around here), challah bread. Hope that helps.

Put an ad on Craiglist for your area, also post a card at the local grocery store. There should be message boards in your area. I just let my friends and neighbors I have egg and would like to make enough to pay for the feed.

When I have extras, (which hasn't happened lately!) I take them to the local fire station. Their budget doesn't let them buy good eggs, so they appreciate it.

Can't believe I didn't think to say that- I put the whole eggs in the blender -shells and all- and scramble them. They LOVE it, and get lots of protein and calcium. That's after the delivery to the firefighters.

You could always do this

If you don't mind foot traffic, one of my neighbors has a sign in the yard that says "farm fresh eggs 2.50" and his phone number. I don't do that because I'd be a direct competitor being so close and he was doing it first, so it didn't seem nice to copy.

I actually sell mine for 3.00 a dozen, 4.00 for an 18-pack. I have a regular customer I ask 2.50 but she has a set amount she gets every week and it comes to about 20.00 per month, which is the cost of our layer feed approximately. The others we sell to our co-workers. When I have extra I just bring them to work.

You obviously don't have that situation or you would already be doing that. But you might try a local farm store for putting up signs selling fertilized eggs (if you have those) or use words like "cage free", "happy chickens" or "organic", whichever you think applies best.

Another thing I've done is just given a dozen to people when they have done something nice, for example my boss got a dozen after he gave the whole company Christmas bonuses. If they rave about them, I say, "Well, we sell them for 3.00 a dozen if you ever want any." I give people 50 cents off if they bring me an empty egg carton. I know I could buy them cheaper than 50 cents but it makes it easier for me to identify whose is whose.

They can also be good ice-breakers. Next door neighbor just had his wife die, we want to drop in and say hello but need an excuse. "Too many eggs".....worked well.

I also supply people I like with them. My mother, my daughter. We have a business friend who has health and financial issues and we like to give some to her every month when we see her.

And finally, we have found that if you make deviled eggs and put them on a plate, you are welcome just about anywhere you go with them. We found we can inhale quite a few of those ourselves, as well.
