Selling pullets

Hi all!

There is a serious shortage of started pullets in our area for the last few years and we are wanting to raise a few batches of pullets to sell. Planning on selling them in the 6-8 week mark.

I'm curious what breeds people would prefer? We would be targeting backyard urban farmers primarily. Our favorite breeds are Americaunas and Wellsummers.

I would aim for breeds that are good layers and/or dual purpose. That’s what I’d be interested in had I done research before getting chickens two years ago.

That’s actually pretty good since it has a rainbow of egg colors and some are dual purpose that I know of. Makes me wanna take that list to add to my flock for personal use but right now I’ll just keep hatching from my flock to save money during all this.

Probably because theyrwnkinda cool egg wise and they come in all sorts of colors

It's more of a novelty thing that a super useful thong a lot of the time, at least with my choices

I fully plan on keeping a couple from each breed we haven't tried yet!

I have been selling pullets for years. Typically150 a year in batches of 25. I start during the holidays so the first batch is laying when most people are starting to think about new chicks. I keep them until they are about16-20 weeks and there is no question to the gender. Selling for$20, I make about $7/bird.
For the first batch go middle of the road. All DP easy going breeds that you would want in your flock. EEs, Wyandotte, BR, BA, BO, welsummer,.. No premium priced birds to start.
