Selling quail eggs in Australia

How much do you sell your eggs for?

I was considering quails, and decided to go with Turkeys. But maybe we have enough room for quails too .. :gig:jumpy

Apparently Turkey's are hard to hatch and Turkey poults die easily. Or it could just be that I am terrible at it :hit

Do you have to teach baby quails how to eat? Or do they just know?

Re your original question from interstate buyer..
On gumtree, when you enquire about an item, it automatically writes an message that says something about vacc certs & papers. So could just be that?

Baby Quail dont need to be taught how to eat. But when they are small they can only eat the small crumbs of the chick starter.

I think vacc certs & papers are not required some people are just a bit thorough. But a return address is required by law.

Was able to sell Quail eggs today $25 AUD for 36 eggs, gave the guy a bit of a discount normal price $20 AUD for 24 eggs. Threw in additional eggs so he got 41 quail eggs for $25.00. Pickup only i dont want to risk the trouble on sending in post. Guy hatches and feeds quails to his snakes. I am looking at selling him in addition

1. any quails that die
2. additional male quails
3. deformed, straddle spraddle leg quails

to feed to his snake to offset the cost of my quail feed.

That's pretty good for both of you! Locally is always easier, but having postage as an option is good too, mix up the gene pool and all that.

I (on a wim), decided to check good old gumtree for quail eggs locally. 24 fertile eggs for $10, picked them up. And the guy realizes the next day that they gave me the wrong eggs and these are due to hatch the following day :jumpy

12 hatched, not all were fertile (and found one that I forgot to put in incubator), some had possibly died earlier, and a few pipped and then died :hit
Geez they're teeny tiny and very cute!!! Pretty quiet compared to Turkeys :lau

Thats what i did at the start mixed up the Gene Pool. I would like to send eggs via post. But i have no idea how to package them well. Without having to spend $49.00 on quail egg trays on ebay. If eggs get cracked could end up with some rather annoyed customers.

You mean he gave u eggs already well into the incubation. So were those eggs incubated naturally or in an incubator. If he gave u the wrong eggs they must have been naturally incubated.

They are very quiet compared to Turkeys. So u ended up with 12 birds out of 24 eggs?? not bad considering the circumstances.
