I raised 30 egg layers actually selling the rest today but I do want to get into selling meat chickens! Little money and I love doing it! Win win

I sell Cornish X and turkeys as live birds and the go about as fast as I post them. I sold Broad Breasted Bronze turkeys two weeks before Thanksgiving last year and got $75-$100 each depending on the weight. I've already had buyers from last year ask if I was going to be selling again this year.

I sold live Cornish X chickens for $15 each at 8 weeks and $20 at 10 weeks.

Sanderson Farms, a chicken processor here in Texas, contracts with growers. Minimum contract is 100,000 birds/year. (I know a guy who is a driver for them and picks up 40,000 lbs of live birds at a time.)View attachment 3071768

Out of curiosity, if ppl come onto your property to purchase birds do you need a business license, any liability insurance? We are considering an orchard and Xmas tree farm where ppl would pick/cut their own. Was wanting to add meat/eggs to model.
I would love to have ppl see the birds free ranging and pick out their meat birds, too.

Our homeowners insurance has a "farm" endorsement. I can't sell meat, milk or process any animals. Eggs and live birds are acceptable as long as we aren't doing it commercially. We're selling fewer than 100 meat birds a year (60-70 chickens a year/20-25 turkeys)
