selling

Then you probably won't be able to sell them, but you could try giving them away. Although, there are a lot more roosters to get rid of than there are people that want them for pets so that could be tough.

I'm in the same boat. I was thinking about asking $5 each for our Barred Rock roosters. What does chicken go for in the store?

Chicken is pretty expensive at the grocery store! At least 1.99/lb for a fresh natural roaster chicken and free range organic is like 3.99 a pound-- fatten those babies up and sell them for $8-$10 each as fresh roaster birds!

Mine aren't. If they want them for soup they can look elswhere

OOPs so sorry did NOT see this before I posted (see above) about fattening up your babies for roaster birds, I dont think I could do that for mine either... I think I have 5 Cockerels as well.... not sure what I will do. Maybe keep them tame and friendly and sell them as perfect for kids' pets? I am buying a calf and those people said they would take a rooster or two for their barn... Also there is a farm animal sanctuary (a group of die hard vegan warriors, so I know the roosters will be safe with them) a few miles away that will take them as a last resort... maybe look into something like that...

Would be hatched and hand raised bump up value?

Nope, sorry. ALL of mine are hatched here from quality healthy stock on quality feed and handled their entire lives. Still, cannot find homes for any of the males of late.

If you give them away, you might as well know that they are probably going to be eaten by someone. It's almost impossible to sell cockerels these days unless they are show birds, one of the currently popular fad breeds or super high quality stock. You can hold out for a good home, but be prepared to feed them for a very long time. Spring may be a tad better, but in this economy, I doubt things will change much.
