I really wanted to get chickens and just found out I am zoned residential even though I am located in the county. Very disappointing :-(. Any way to change this? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to BYC!

I am so sorry you are not zoned for chickens!!! We do have a section here on BYC, Local Chicken Laws and How To Change Them. Maybe you can glean something from this forum that will help you get those laws changed....

You might also chat with others in your state thread and maybe they can help you with getting things changed....

Good luck to you in getting those laws changed. I just couldn't imagine life without my birds! Welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sorry you are not already zoned for chickens, TwoCrows gave you some great links to get you started on changing them, hope you are successful and are able to get chickens!

Maybe you could have "house" chickens - my friend has had chickens over 20 years and always had them as house pets. If you don't have a rooster it may be a solution for you.

I, too, want to have chickens in my backyard in a residential area in Seminole County. I am trying to figure out what I need to do to get permission, get an ordinance changed, etc. Would you be interested in working together on such an initiative?
