Sent wrong breed?

2 weeks ago we received our new ducklings. We ordered 2 black Indian runners and 2 sweet Emily's (white layers ). The sweet Emily's are supposed to be roughly the same adult weight as the runners. Right now the sweet Emily's are twice the weight of the runners. I'm wondering if I received Pekin ducklings instead. It's not really a big deal, just curious. Does anyone have experience with the sweet Emily's?

I have a white layer from Metzer which are the same as the sweet Emily from McMurrays if I'm not mistaken. I wondered the same thing when we were brooding them . I'm pretty certain that they used a standard pekin when they made that hybrid just like the golden layer are part Rouen.

The white layer hybrids are supposed to be smaller than a pekin and lay more eggs.
Sounds like you got some pekins especially if they are already that big and growing that quickly

You could call to explain this to them, but you also have to remember that breeds of ducks grow at different rates. Some ducks grow much more quickly than others even if they attain the same weight as adults. That's one reason certain ducks are raised as "meat ducks" even though other breeds will attain the same size, just more slowly. Those look about the right size to me for the ducks you have.

Thanks everyone! Honestly, it doesn't really matter. I will be happy with them either way. What's not to love about ducks? I guess I just want to know what I have. I'm really excited that these ducklings seem to be much friendlier than the Anacona's we have. When we take them out of the brooder they all climb right into my lap and snuggle up with me.

Great! We had Anconas at one time, and ours weren't what I'd call friendly, either. Did you get your Anconas as babies? We got ours at 3 days old but never could get them to even eat out of our hands the best I remember.

My white later is very much larger than my runners but they are suppose to be. Runners are pretty light breeds and I believe white layers are med weight.

Yes, we received our Ancona's when they were 2 days old. We started with what was supposed to be 5 females. We ended up with the 2 hens and 3 drakes. We ended up rehoming 2 of the drakes so they wouldn't stress out the females. After that the 3 Ancona's left seemed much friendlier. They have always eaten out of our hands, but now when I go in their run they will come right up to me and start pecking me all over. I can even pet them now. I go into their run everyday, usually several times. And of course I usually bring them some sort of treat like lettuce, peas, tomatoes, or watermelon. I am just hoping the Ancona's will take to the new ducklings when I put them out there.
