Sentimental About your Roos?

I'm loving mine... Earl the BR roo. My first hatch with his sis Pearl.

We have our first rooster and we adore him even though he can be a bit brutish.Turns out all the chickens can be a bit brutish so we tolerate them all unless injury is an issue. This is our Taffy who is now 3 months old.

one i really wish i could keep, i call him chicken little because he is my runt, he has a deformed foot and being a sap i feel bad for him. but i cant have 2 roos and 2 hens! that would not work.

Hello, If you are just protecting backs of your hens, I'd trim the spurs of your roosters. I have one big 'ole Buff Orpington that had some very pointed spurs that was damaging my hens backs. I trimmed back into the quick intentionally so when the spurs grow out they will be blunt. The rooster did not flinch in pain and spurs bled very little.

I love all my roos, had a few I thought were a little nasty though. I cried a lot when I had to get rid of my 1st roo, but I know he wont be dinner where he went. Didn't help though. I had 8 roos and 5 that got along...sam was not one that would stand another roo...so he went with 3 other roos. I even thought of making a bachelor pad so that I could keep all 8 roos. I still think about them and hope they are ok. But now I have all my birds in 1 coop and no fighting.

besides, roos are so pretty! Why is it that the males are always colored so nice!

Holy Cow...yes!

I only have 3. One is the master of the universe..and we all love him beyond measure. But my second is the "badboy" of the coop. Pinky will catch you like nobody's business, but he has my heart. I can't seem to be OK with getting rid of him. We have an understanding. (Now, he's an itty-bitty bantam...about the size of a coke can, so a quick swipe of the bristle end of a broom usually settles it...don't want any bashing about a flogging roo)...but YES....LOVE my roos!

..be kind, repliers...
