Separating Baby Chick & Hen

My Red Hen hatched one baby chick about 10 days ago. They both are in a large tupperware box when should i put the hen back and should i hang a mirror for the baby chicks so she is not alone?

Why don't you put the chick with the mom and let her raise it.

I am confused if you only have one chick why would you want to
separate them as the mother will be finished raising in 4 to 6
weeks when mom say's get away and the baby stands a better
chance of survival with the mom and your hen will be very put
out just because they are animals dose not mean they have
fallings just like a human mom .........

Put mama and baby out in the coop and she will take care of the baby. If she is a good mother she will defend the chick from the other chickens.

Make sure the waterer and feeder are accessible to a small chick (you may have to put little brick step-ups next to the waterer and feeder).

Also make sure there is a nice place on the floor for her to set on her chick, like a little bed of shavings somewhere or a cardboard box with shavings in it, turned on its side.

No one was nasty to you, at all. You got good advice. Hens have been raising chicks in with the flock for millenia. It is the natural way for them to do it. There is no reason to separate anyone.

And Welcome To BYC! Everyone answers in a different way. Some are right out with their thinking, and say it like it is. They don't mean to be honry.

Just helping in their way. Look at what they say, see if it goes along with what others are suggesting, and go for it!

Have to agree, mama can do it. Your baby should be ok with her. Maybe you can make a separate area for her and her chick out with the others, that's what I do. I have a place at the end of the big coop run..a run of itself for mama and babies. That way, if she isn't a good mama, or if another chicken happens to be aggressive towards little ones, I don't have to worry about it..they are separated, but only by chicken wire so the others can see them both.
