Separating hen from chicks

How will I know when the time is right to separate my hen from her chicks?

They will let you know. The hen will start roosting at night and the chicks will become more independent of her. You will see mama stop calling her chicks when she finds food (she'll eat it herself). I even have a hen who will start pecking at her chicks to drive them away.
