Separating manure from pine shavings for garden use

Install some poop boards under your roost, then you can just scrape the poop into a bucket and dump it where you want. That will also keep your shavings cleaner for longer.

My husband keeps saying that the pine shavings will hurt the compost somehow. I keep reading about it and it doesn't seem like it will. He says they have an acid that supposedly hurts compost. Had anyone else heard this? I have a pile of shavings and manure separate from the compost.
