I feel your pain being afraid the egg-laying noise will bother the neighbors. I got my first one (have 4 buffs) on Sunday (luckily it was mid-afternoon.) I was in my bedroom, which is the farthest room in the house from the coop, with the window cracked a bit because it was warm. My dad had the leaf blower going in the front yard (which my room faces) and i STILL heard the announcement. Lucky for me, I could go running out to see!! Thankfully it was just one loud BA-GAWK! and then it was over. I've gotten three eggs so far and all have been laid between noon and 4pm.
