Sept Silkie hatches (Great Hatches)

So it is officially day 21 for one of my eggs (the other 2 are due Friday) and this egg internally pipped this morning. Well actually, I checked the egg at 8 A.m. and he was chirping at me. I can see his beak right under the shell in the air cell. But no external pip. If I wake up and he still hasn't pipped I'm going to make a hole so he doesn't run out of oxygen. Any suggestions? It's a partridge silkie egg.

How's it doing?

How's it doing?

He's doing good! He's actually crying his head off at the moment because I'm in the other room putting the baby to sleep and he's all alone in his brooder. But I have another egg pipped, so I'm hoping he will have a friend by tonight. I put a small hole in the air cell after it had been over 24 hours with no external pip. He still wasn't making progress. So I was going to start an assist after I put my baby down for a nap. After the baby fell asleep and I came out to check on him, he was 75% of the way zipped!! So he hatched on his own. He's still a little wobbly on his feet and I have not been able to get him to drink on his own yet. So I'm really hoping he just needs a friend to help show him the way!! Thank you for asking!

I hope that chick gets a friend asap : ) It is hard for one baby to go to sleep with another chick baby crying. I am glad it is doing well!

I've got 2 more pips!!

Awesome!

My chicks take a couple days to get the hang of drinking. If you are worried, just hold them in your hand and dip their beak in something like a measuring spoon of water. We did this for a few weak chicks and they got all the way better in just a few days.

Best of luck!

It's been a busy 3 days of hatching and my hatch is still going! I hatched out 3 chicks last weekend. 1 splash and 2 partridge. But I had to put one down because it had a bum leg. This batch of shipped eggs is doing great! Pips started on Friday night. I had 9 eggs develop and 9 eggs lockdown. I currently have 6 hatched and 3 pips!! I may get 100% if all pips make it!!

How is everyone's chicks/ ducklings doing?

No way Ruby! Both my older brothers were born on the 19th, not twins and not planned to be the same day they are two years apart. That kinda boggles my mind meeting someone else that shares that bday. Of course I know many people must but how many are there ya know? Maybe it's a popular birthday? I saw a graph in reader's digest I think it was that showed every day of the year and how many people were born on each day, something like that.

My Dad and brother were both born on the 19th too :)

That's awesome! These are paint chicks hatching now? I am so happy for you!

I had that one duck egg but it didn't make it, for the best, I think. Still tempted to do one more Silkie hatch but I've had a lot going on.
