***SEPTEMBER HATCH-A-LONG come join in***

I had to catch up with the posts. Mtcookie, that "Are you my mommy?" photo is SO freakin' adorable!

3 lavender orpington chicks have hatched. Large fowl version. The chicks are now in the brooder with the 3 black cotton-balls, I mean bantam cochin chicks. Those little goobers are like gymnasts! They are easily less than half the size of the orp hatchlings.

I've left both incubators running in case there are any late pips or anything from the four "didn't hatch" eggs in each.

Three chicks out of seven per incubator. I think that's a good hatch - I'm still in the mode of "if ANYTHING hatches, it's eggscellent!"

Hatched out 2 chicks today and I am stumped on the color, they are completely not what I was expecting but boy are they beautiful

here is the 1st one to hatch

Ok, I'll add mine, too!

Homemade incubator #1 - Started with 18 Barnevelder eggs, candled periodically, saw several growing well and moving lots! Found 3 clear/unfertile/expired in the mail broke them open, couldn't find any evidence of ever beginning to form, so they are gone. I 've got a few that are ?, so a total of 15 that I'm watching...right now they are Day # 18, almost 19! Hatch Day 09-12-2010!
*As a side note this incubator is made out of a styrofoam cooler, a pc fan, a water heater thermo & light kit(inspired by people on good old BYC!)...and has hatched out 12 turkeys & 18 chickens!

Homemade Incubator #2 - 10 Barnevelder eggs from different breeder...have candled, but kinda hard to see through, shells are pretty thick. These are on Day #13. Due date 09-17-2010. This inubator started not holding it's temp as well as it had previously. I also happened upon a Little Giant with fan & turner on Craigslist a couple of days ago for a great deal(that is if it has a good hatch rate in the future

). So I set it up today and transferred the clutch of 10 in hopes that the cool spots in the previous incubator didn't kill 'em!

i candled last night all the eggs in the incubator here's the tally: of the ee eggs down to 2 out of 15, the wheaten marans down to 3 out of 15, out of the serama egg down to 11 out of 15. the serama eggs are on day 7 the wheaten marans are on day 11 and the ee's are on day 14. so hoping some of each make it and hatch

I guess I am on the list. 3 Chickies due the 29th if all goes well.

I have no idea what breed of chickens are hatching, maybe white leghorns. I got the fertile eggs from a not to near neighbor.

My eggs under my broodie ameracauna are hatching! She is sitting on 14 eggs that were discovered last sunday (we thought that she had dissapeared). I candled them and all were growing, this morning we have 11 pips and the other 3 could be felt wiggling around in their eggs. Mom is the ameracauna, and dad is a standard silverlaced cochin! We are very excited! It is killing me that I am at work and dont know what is going on with them! I should have lots of fuzzy babies by the time I get home!
