I cant nor wont say he is 100% anything, as I didnt breed him, nor his parents, nor their parents. I would not say he isnt serama, and what gumbii said is true, even the two best parent birds will throw less than good more often than we like. But I will say I have seen and owned serama that resembled oegb much more than serama, in both color and type.

werd...

i'm having a bad time with my mille fleur OEGB... i love the type on my trio, but all of the babies come super long backs... i hate it... i haven't hatched one decent bird out of about 60 babies... and it's always the same problem... sigh...

also... i have an OEGB serama cross hen... she's like a black gold birchen of some sort... super tiny... everything about her is OEGB except for her head... she has the sharp short yellow beak, the rounder larger head, but from the neck down, OEGB... she's also a sweet heart like a serama... she even plays with me still...

I have seen people take spangled hen underneath a mille rooster to improve type. For some reason, milles just seem to always be long backed, not sure why. You will have some color issues, as milles do not have stippling as do spangles, but if you use a spangled hen, u would have less issues than vice versa. If you can find a spangle with lighter ground colr it would work better for you.

And honestly, if you have a goal, and a way to go about it, crossing out to one breed to fix another is not a huge deal, especially with birds as close in type as some oegb with some serama. Now top serama and top oegb are worlds apart in type, but your more mediocre birds can be pretty close in type. Its all a numbers game, produce as many as you can with the cross, and hope to retain 5% back for breeding, if your lucky.

Now, before someone blows a gasket, YES, it is my opinion that oegb have been crossed into serama many times, for various reasons, some for color, some for financial gain, and others out of ignorance or just dont care. Now, as I stated, it is my OPINION, and if you take that and a quarter, you can just about buy a cup of coffee.....

Opinions are always welcomed with me. If someone goes off about something you said, I'll ask a mod to close the thread.. You are just giving what you know from a game bird view which I have none! I own only 1 game bantam and he's just a flock protector for my MIL's Red Sex Links.

good stuff...although, i know some serama people get very offensive but they're not as bad as OEGB people... LOL... no offense kid... but you know how OEGB people get when they get slightly criticized... but it's the same kind of deal on serama or OEGB... in both, you get what you pay for... my serama aren't the bestestest... but i did pay a lot for my OEGB and the mille fleur problems are just driving me nuts... LOL...

lol, been a while since I was referred to as kid...yep, your right, the oegb folks are as bad as the rest of them. My wife has seramas, and loves them. Hers are decent, she just has them for pets, so she didnt feel like spending the (what I call outrageous) price some of these people charge PER bird. I have seen them bring as much as $200 apiece and they do nothing more than look pretty.

I dont have american serama, I think the whole 'american' serama is a joke. I know what correct type is for the Malaysian serama, thats all Im concerned with. They are either serama, or they are not. Trying to standardize them is going to be the ruin of them, as people will breed in other breeds to 'set' certain colors, some I am already seeing. Barred, Golden Duckwing, Blue Golden Duckwing, Silver Duckwing, etc....
