Has anyone hatched out a serama chick that has very short legs? We had one hatch and its legs are weird

I haven’t hatched any with short legs. Can it walk or are it’s toes curled all the time?

It just hatched yesterday. It is trying to sit up, but having difficulty. The toes seem to be missing and stumpy.

I think it is under developed. Nothing to do with breed. I'm going to guess it will not be abke to walk properly if at all and may very well have a poor quality of life. @Wyorp Rock @azygous

I would cull.

Yeah, I have had a few weak serama chicks but none with deformities like yours. Some I’ve culled and some given a shot. There was one I thought had very little chance that turned out fine… but a couple others I really thought would come around but didn’t.

Well what happened did you cull or was she ok

That's a deformity. Cull the chick, unless you want a special needs bird.

Poor little one passed away not very long after I posted.
