Serious Duck Problem really need help Video Added!!!

Well I was kicking myself for thinking I should click on this - I HATE sad things -- and then got a lovely belly laugh. Thank goodness it's all good news. Yep that's normal mating ritual kind of stuff! Next comes the part where you think someone's going to get drowned in the pool! (and apparently sometimes they do ...)

What I saw in the video is the same kind of head-bobbing I get regularly from some (not all) of my female runner ducks. They do it especially when I first show up at the duck yard. It began when they began to sexually mature.

Now, perhaps I missed something in the video. But I did not see anything abnormal.

You talked about muscle clenching and the head striking the back? Can you get video of that?

This is why i should have just stuck to chickens lol. The chinese resturant I sell to requested I raise ducks so they can buy one a week.
I didn't want to take on the task But I thought how hard could it be chickens are easy. Oh My was i so so so wrong. They require so much more time patience and energy. There so messy and they waste so much food. And then a two females (who are at sexual maturity age) Do a Ritual and the males responded by buffing there chests and flipping there wings. (am I on the right track at least?

) And I almost break down in tears since these are my breeding stock?
I guess its better to be safe then sorry, lesson learned here is to do more research on animals you intend to raise Never assume there just as easy as the next one. We all got to start somewhere guess BYC is best place as any? thanks I will keep everyone updated to my spasming sexual drivin ducks. Hope i didn't Scar them for life chasing them for days pinning them up.

well, hey, there are a lot of things that you just can't pick up any other way than by experience. I'm just glad that there isn't anything wrong, apparently, with the ducks.

I had visions of an outbreak of botulism -- I remember seeing photos of dead birds from Minnesota or the Dakotas once during a hot summer drought and it was sad --hundreds of dead and dying birds huddled around these little stagnant ponds. I think it was in 1988, when a record heatwave and drought hit the midwest.

Having amourous ducks is a lot better than having sick ones, especially if you intend to breed them anyway.

Not sure if this has been said yet or not- IT looks like the duck is having a sneezing fit. Mine do that all the time. They'll blow air of their noses really fast and they'll fling their head up and down like that. It seems they'll keep doing it for a while until they get their head in some water and blow it out (they'll blow bubbles). Looks like he just doesn't want to get in the pool because his friends aren't. So e keeps sneezing while walking. If it keeps up for more than a day or so, I might get a little worried, but mine have had a long day of sneezy fits and were just fine (and too lazy to go to the waterer, lol).

One of my young Pekin girls has been doing this too. It worried me too until I see others are having the same issue, it appears to be a Mating invitation. Thank Goodness!! I was considering culling her for having a horrible TIC.

Even our Muscovy girls exhibit this kind of behavior. (Also,If it were a seizure the duck would not have muscle control and it wouldn't be able to continue on with the other ducks.)

Hello fellow duck people. This is normal. When I was a kid and had my pekins the females used to do this. I found a video on Youtube showing this behavior. It makes me laugh every time I see it.
