Had another thought: Spider Mites.....Are the leaves light speckled to a green gray tone? The leaves will curl and then turn brown. Is there a fine web on the surface and when you look at the back side of the leaf are there super tiney red or black specks? Use a white sheet of paper and tap the leaf over the surface of the paper...you will seek little moving specks or use a magnifying glass to peer at them. Spider mites suck the life out of the leaves. one plant may have them and they move to others as they multiply. Marigolds are a favorite. I plant them near tomatoes not only for the looks of the garden but as warning beacons of spider mites.
Soap shield is usedful as is captan or malathion.

I didn't notice speckles or green-gray tone. I will go look in the morning. Thank you!

I have also heard you can tell what kind of soil quality and nutrients are in or not in your soil based on the weeds it grows.

I love gardening won't be doing to much this week though with all this heat but I'm doing hard scape and building a wall as I have a new chicken coop and ended up puting a picket fence around it with a wall underneath as soon as I can I will post a picture its still in progress. Have a new fertilizer for roses its banana's has anyone ever heard of this before found it in a magazine don't know if it works yet has only been 2 weeks.

Found my first tomato worm of the year today, he ate most of one plant overnight, he was so fat and tight when I plucked him off, one of the girls got a tasty treat, at least she thought so.

The heat has done a number on worms this year. I had very few cabbage worms this year.about 10 ears out of 70 had a corn ear worm and I've only found three tomatoe horn worms...and those were sall.

The purple martins are beginning to leave. We are down to 5 pair with babies still fledging and going thru flight school. They are all ususally gone by August 3...then we get the migrating flocks for another several weeks.

Had a beautiful white faced bull calf born last week and a great looking black on born this week. They discovered their legs and are running with their tails in the air like little boys with flags on the back of their bicycles...loving this cooler morning air.

Maybe this was asked already, I did a search and didn't come up with much. How do I get rid of grasshoppers? I mean ALOT of the buggers! Our 5 acres is covered in them, we can't walk across the yard and talk at the same time cuz there are so many they get in your mouth

my 7 chickens get the ones near the house but that doesn't even put a dent in their numbers. I'm thinking my only option is spraying something on out entire acreage but I don't know where to begin! Any ideas?
