I started planting my garden a few weeks ago. Because we have mostly sand it was best to have a raised garden where I brought in the soil and supplements that I wanted. This will be my second year for this garden, I have planted beets which have come up and look nice but they seem to be growing a bit slow. Hopefully they will speedier up as they get bigger. I have Japanese egg plants and several different kinds of peppers. But my main reason for growing and my passion, are tomatoes. Last year my favorite, and one of the best producers, was the chocolate cherry or black cherry tomato and I have planted that again this year. In addition I have the following heirloom varieties; Paul Robeson, Mortgage Lifter, Cherokee Purple, and Virginia Sweets. The tomato plants are about one foot and I would expect that I can begin some harvest of tomatoes by around some time in May. Once the real hot weather comes I am done with garden and just cover it over to sterilize the soil and begin planting again in September for harvest in late November and December.
