Serious Question for serious breeders (culling)

Quote:
This is so true. I've never wanted to raise dogs for that very reason: the potential to be stuck with too many dogs. Well, that and feeling that by the time any puppies got old enough to sell, I'd probably be horribly attached to them. My biggest problem with the chickens is if I am the one raising them, I tend to get attached, and then I don't want to eat them. Of course, I've found that if I let a broody hen hatch and raise the chicks, then my contact with them is generally much more minimal (as broody mama's can be pretty testy. lol!), so I don't get attached to them. I love raising chicks, but I think I may be a bit too soft for my own good.

And even within dog breeds some are easier to raise than others! My breed is VERY difficult to find good homes for, whereas if I was raising something small, fluffy and deadhead it would be easy, heck, I could probably even make money. As is, I have only ever bred for myself, placed a few with fellow sportspersons or friends and have done a lot of culling as the world needs BETTER dogs, not MORE dogs.

Well, I have found some help on specific culling issues on another board, so thanks for the help I did get on this thread.
