We mix a concoction of a jar of Vick's vapo rub, and about 1/2ounce of melaluca (try "Mela-Fix" from
Wal-mart Fish Department or DR's Fosters and Smiths.com, and a big wad of vaseline and mix !
Then rub it against the grain of his scales so as to press it up under there.
The melaluca will help heal AND kill the bugs.
If his legs are swollen and red, and inflammed maybe you need to see a vet.
I would never give a chicken any human pills, aspirin or otherwise unless a vet tells you it is OK.
Do you have dogs ?
Do you know what liquid permethrin is ?
Like Top Spot or those other liquids you spot on a dog's back to kill fleas and ticks ?
A packet of that mixed in the vapo-rub solution will drop all bugs dead.
Mix it in, and massage as I said, and if it isn't too late, your roo should be fine. It is enough to do ALOT of chickens.
However, it is not an antibiotic.
If the mites have been in there for a while an then dirt gets in and he could get infections, but do not give aspirin.
This is what I do if I get a rescue sick chick...and I also dose all my chickens with this mixture at least once a month, Hope it works for you.
P.S. Melaluca is Tea Tree OIl, a natural insecticide, anti-fungal and anti-biotic, hope it works for you like it does for me.
