Oh boy...McMurray has me in quite the predicament. I Have a 8x8 coop that they are going to be going in and they will be free range . I have 41 chickens that are quickly outgrowing their brooder that is 4x4. They will be 3 weeks tomorrow. I ordered 29 chicks from them to account for possible casualties and figured that I would have to get rid of 5 or so, but they sent me 42 (one died in transit left with 41)

Now I havbe to get rid of nearly 20. Where the heck are they going to go. Help! How long will they be okay in that small of a coop if I move them out there with heat next week? OMG...I am so worried for them

Hi fellow Long Islander!

Where are you? I'm in Hampton Bays.
I'm finding myself in the same boat. I have a 4x6 coop with 4 adult hens and 1 adult rooster, 5 chicks in a brooder and 6 eggs in an incubator. It'll definintely be a tight fit if they were all to stay. I know there are several farms on the north fork that will take the unwanted ones that they sell for meat. You could also list them on Craigslist or list them on here if you can ship them. Let me know if you figure out what you'll do, 'cause I certainly could use the info too! This is a terrible addiction!!!

Hi There! We're practically neighbors! I am in Cutchogue. Do you know of any farms that take them? I have a couple of places that I was going to call. I just couldn't bear to eat my own chickens

I will let you know if I find out anything. I put it on Craigslist, but so far no takers...I posted them as free. Was going to see if agway had anyone who wanted them. Oh boy. What a predicament!

Well, I wouldn't count on Agway taking them. That's actually where I picked up my chicks. They have thousands this year that they are selling. I believe there is a place on Sound Ave. A friend of mine brought her Silkie rooster there. I'll ask her and get back to you!
I've had my rooster on Craigslist for a while. We've grown attached to him, but he's kinda causing problems so I was trying to find someone who would take him and let him live out his life. I have a feeling that we'll be stuck with him though. If I have any other roos this time, I'll be giving them to any takers so I'm making a point to not get attached until I know for sure what we've got.
It's so nice to meet you neighbor!!!

Thanks! That would be great

I just can't believe I have to get rid of so many, and it will be forever until I know hen/rooster as they said I had RIR packing peanuts, but only 3 or 4 look like RIRs. Crazy! Oh well. Time to take some pics and see what everyone thinks!

Lol...too funny! Believe it or not I don't know too many Rachel's only a cousin by marraige, and we have the same exact name and live in the same town!

Really? There are 2 Rachel's in Cutchogue? Interesting! Usually Rachel is spelled like Rachael too.
We'll have to meet up one day! How old are your kids? I have a 6 1/2 yr old son and a 4 yr old daughter.
I sent an email to my friend about your chicks. I'll let you know as soon as I hear back. In the mean time, post those pics and we'll guess on the genders!

Lol...meant two Rachel's same first and last name...they mix us up at the pharmacy all the time. lol. I have a 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter. I will get some pictures posted and thanks for emailing your friend. I just got some shady emails from someone on craigslist that wants them all. But she seems way too forward and promised to take "gud" care of them. Makes me nervous.
