oh dear, you sure are having a run of bad luck...hopefully you have new eggs in the bator

I tried candling a few of mine,it's hard with a flashlight! LOL I think they are okay, not sure.Where my eggs are brown it's hard to see through it.I will wait a few more days then try again.
Humidity was up yesterday.....couldn't seem to get it come down.It was humid outside so I think that is why, better today at 60%.

Congrats on the hatch from your broody hen

. I went off on a last minute trip to seattle with hubby and when I got back, I candled to find out my last shipped egg had a blood ring and the other one of mine wasnt growing at all. The good news is that the eggs I threw in there 3 days ago look to be growing! So I may or may not get something out of this last group, but it will be way after yours hatch. Im glad everything is looking good for you, be sure to keep me updated and post pics when your fuzzy butts arrive

I am probably the odd one on this, but I try to candle the eggs as little as possible. The first time I attempted hatching I was convinced that the eggs were all duds. I was depressed about it for days. Needless to say, I have four non-duds out of 5 eggs that were fertile. The rest of the eggs were duds, but they were not even fertilized. I had one the first go around that was leaking so it went into the trash, the others stayed there until two days after the hatch. The more we open the darn incubator the more harm that is done to the eggs. I have a turner, I put in water when needed, other than that I leave them alone. They are in God's hands from then on

I set my eggs on the 6th, I love hatching buddies. I have 15 splash orpington eggs in my hand-me-down genesis bator. Don't know who enjoys hatching more...me or my three kids. Probably me

yes Im sure you're right. I bought an egg turner today though so now I dont have to open the bator to turn. I think it will be a good thing. Im determined to do whatever it takes to get something to hatch even if it takes me a while to figure things out.

Hey Valley Girl, just checking in on you, how did your hatch go? Since I had to start over, I cant remember when yours were due to hatch. Anyway, I'd love an update!

Hi mothersin2ition. It's going ok.I have one egg that is wiggling and I can hear the chick peeping
jumpy.gif
it is the 21st day for it. 7 hatched earlier in the week and I had tossed 7 back on August 18th,1 stinker and 6 that weren't fertilized.
There are 3 other eggs that are in the incubator that had wiggled but have stopped, they were due to hatch on the 25th.
So,if all goes well with this last one,I'll have 8 out 11,not what I was expecting but I'm happy with them all

I agree about not opening the incubator EdistoChicks unless it's to add water.I have a see through door and I love it! I thought I had lost the whole hatch.......back on the 21st ,I forgot to turn the automatic egg turner back on when I was candling and looking for the stinker, the eggs didn't turn for 21/2 days,I guess I'm lucky to get the 8 I have.

What do you have in the incubator now mothersin2ition?

Hey Valley Girl, 8 out of 11 is great! Do you have pics of the little cuties?
Currently, I just have a bunch of mutt eggs in there cooking (from my chickens) and I think out of 15, all of them are looking good. Im on day 11 with them. I had one egg that was quite a bit further and day 18 was yesterday, so I put it under my brahma hen that had gone MIA (we found her last week, sitting on a HUGE clutch out in the weeds) and it is due to hatch tomorrow. We took about 20 of the eggs from her because they were either duds or clear. Im hoping she gets at least one of two chicks from her effort....
In any case, I just ordered silkie and maran eggs yesterday so Im hoping to set some more next week. Now I just need to get my hatcher up and going so I can move the eggs there when day 18 comes and not disturb the ones that arent as far along.
Is this your last batch for the year? Cause if you're up for doing some more with me next week, Im game!

So, my brahma hen abandoned her nest when Dh got too close to it with the lawnmower

and by the time I figured out what happened, all eggs were cold except one. I took them all inside and candled- out of the 6 or so she had left, only one still had veining, and the rest stunk
sickbyc.gif
so I threw them out. Anyway, the one that was still alive, I tossed in the bator. It looked to be on about day 18 or so. Anyway, guess what? Tonight I found it had pipped and was rocking and rolling, even chirping from inside!!! So I quickly set up the hatcher and he is currently hanging out in there. I can only

he makes it.....I will post pics if he does

So what in the world do you do with all those chickens??? Thats ALOT!! My hubby would kill me if we had that many, although our flock is definitely growing little by little. He actually has no idea I ordered the silkie and maran eggs last week *shhhh*

I may end up with as many as you yet!
