I'll be setting 2 dozen silkie eggs next week... My first attempt at incubating eggs!! I'll be watching to see how everyone else's eggs are doing. Good luck!
Tomorrow I'm going to do what I said I would never do ...... Set a staggard hatch. These will be behind my first ones by about a week. I don't know how I'm going to handle it yet but it should be interesting and a steep learning curve for me.
Candled the initial set of 16 eggs mailed to me, not one fertile, all crystal clear..... A little peeved, contacted the seller who basically said it was due to USPS handling. Some not setting yes but all? They came from just across the border in SC and were collected from the USPS the day after they were mailed, less than 24 hrs in transit, I think the eggs were infertile from the start.
im weiting for 6 more eggs in box and momma is not sitting on them so much now as one has hatched out. should i moove them inside to the incubator? or leave them with mom? i never had a momma hatch them for me before.
I have 4 hens started setting about a week ago. A BO, a New Hampshire Red, an EE cross, and a silkie! We went on vacation the first week of Aug., and in all the excitement of having our first real vacation in 2 years, I forgot to mention one little chore for the guy that stayed at our place to care for the animals-----collecting the eggs! We decided to let the hens try to hatch them out, and will have quite an assortment of chicks as all our hens were laying in the same nest boxes ecept for the silkie.
I just got the 3 bigger hens and eggs moved to a pen of their own so all the other hens can lay in the coop.
I'm goimg to be seting 6 khaki campbell duck eggs that im getting of ebay, that I hope will come "after " my incubator, can I still join? Even though they are not silkies.
