Set 8 Eggs In Brinsea Mini Advance Today 9/13/11. Wanna Join?

What's the Silkie Roo like? I'd like to get a Silkie. My big concern is how it would fit in with the other hens. A Roo could be good because
he could stand up to them. His he as loud as other breeds? Whats his temperament like? I have a lavender Araucana egg in the bator but I'm not sure about the Rooster. Could be Black Rumpless Araucana, Lavander Araucan, or Sussex. So it will be fun to see the mystery chick.
Half Araucana is all I know for sure.

I set a mix of 12 silkies, frizzle and pekin yesterday so i'm in. Can't wait to see what mix and colours i get.
Good luck to every one

I'll join I have a young banty hen that went broody on the 10th she's got 8 or 9 eggs under her 5 reg size and 4 banty and the other hens have decided to lay in her nest instead of the one they've been using for over a month so i've just marked her eggs and take out the un marked i'm hoping to be able to candle her eggs next week to see which ones are growing

The quails are going beside, they are my hubbies birds and it is for me a challange to get some babies for him

My silkie roo is a sweetheard for the girls and me, so excited to see babies from the crosses, can't wait

The eggs arrived today! The breeder sent me an extra egg in case some broke during shipping which was thoughtful except that I can't fit them all in my Brinsea Advance and I hate to waste an egg so..... I removed the egg tray and turned the auto turner off and I'm going to hand turn them until I can candle and see if there are any duds. If there are I'll be able to use the auto turner. There are 6 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and 2 Swedish Flower Hen eggs in there. I put a cloth that I cut out under the eggs so they won’t roll around so easy. Here is an image shortly after I put them in, unfortunately no pipping yet

I have no idea really about humidity... The Hovabator says to fill the center tray and then when in lockdown fill both center and outer. I guess I'll just do that. I read somewhere to try to keep humidity at 30-35 then 65-70 at lockdown, another place says 60-65 then 80-85 but I guess humidity is one of those things that really depends on location, incubator etc... I'll shoot for around the 40-50 range. I live in the desert so I think I'm gonna have to refill pretty regularly. Currently it's at 40 but it did go down to 20 before I refilled the trough. Seems to be what it holds with that center tray filled. I can get it higher 50+ when I add sponges but I have to resoak... Should I shoot for higher? I did test my hygrometer and it is accurate so that's a plus. I have 2 thermometers in there which differ, the low one reads 99.3-100 and the high one reads 100-101.6. I'm gonna try to get a new one today and see what it says.
It's confusing that humidity recommendations vary so widely and thermometers vary in their measurements.

I'm excited about the Wheaten Ameraucanas. I got the eggs for free, I wanted more but the hens had stopped laying. I plan to buy more eggs or chicks from the same breeder in the late winter/early spring. I really like the look of the WAs. The hens remind me of caramel popcorn. I'm a big fan of the beards and tufts too! I hope my eggs hatch... we shall see.

Almost at the 1 week point! When would be a good time to candle? Suggestions?

Thank you for your help everyone. I'm excited to see how everyone's hatches turn out.
