Set 86 Eggs Tonight *FORTY-FOUR Hatched--Hatch Over *

Holy cow you have 62 eggs developing!!!!! I can't wait til day 20-21, its going to be like popcorn popping in your house.

And how unbelieveable, how did those EEs develop with those air cells? I thought for sure you wouldnt get ANY! Im a little disappointed the rocks didnt do better for you, but I cant be disappointed I guess.

Boy is this going to be fun to watch!!!!!

It would be terrific if all of those hatched! And I agree, a chicken yard without a Barred Rock looks drab, no matter how many other chickens are there.

I'm hoping

to get a few Blue Orpingtons so as to give Roosevelt a chance for blue babies. Perhaps a grandson of Suede would work? I noticed some blue lacing on Roosevelt's breast the last time I picked him up; it would also be interesting to give him some Blue Laced Red Wyandotte ladies... too bad I can't afford some eggs from the Imported English Red Orpingtons... This boy makes my head spin with plans.

Kathy, I have no idea why those pretty blue eggs are developing so wall. I marked each one with "Det. AC" so I wouldn't be suprised, but they are doing better than the Rocks! Naturally, my optimism is cautious since an egg can quit anytime, but I rather expected to have to toss out at least 20-25 at first candling. I'm still hand turning quite a bunch of eggs in that one bator. That one Rock that has veining but a detached air cell--the aircell is a huge bubble floating all over the place. It may quit, but it has good veining anyway.

Roosevelt would be great with some blue ladies or even if you got a single combed BLRW hen for him since they do happen occasionally. Whatever he produces should be very pretty!

Oops, counted wrong! There are still 76 eggs total. How did I get 62?

Good grief, I think I nixed all the ones that are still in there, but I wasn't sure about. There are still 39 spaces on my 42 space turner filled and 37 in the one I'm hand turning.

Note for the hatch .... my New Hampshires usually hatch first, and the Barred Rocks are almost always the last hatchers. They pip and often take a full 24 hours before they hatch.... the lazy bums take their sweet time, and keep me in suspense.

It's amazing, really, isn't it? I realize some of those may have blood rings forming (I counted 9 of those), but I left them in. When I recounted a bit ago, there are definitely that many. I moved three over to the bator with the turner after vacating three slots, so there is again 42 in the one with the turner and 34 in the one that I'm turning by hand. It's a testament to the strong parent stock as well as the packing abilities of the kind folks who sent me the eggs! Kudos to all of you! This is why I want to only do business with people I know are conscientious breeders, no ebay strangers for me, ever.

I feel ya on the hand turning part I have one turner and WAY more eggs than you
