Anyone else still hatching turkeys this year?
I've never found it necessary before to do a summer hatch, but I've sold the fifty five I hatched back in the spring so I'm out of birds. Don't want to go till next spring with nothing to sell so in they went.
I usually get at least 85% hatch with turkeys, but with this batch I'm not expecting that. Florida summer weather, especially in a wet year like this one, is torrid which has an affect on fertility and hatchability plus the fact that some of the eggs were up to four weeks old. If I get 50% I won't be disappointed.
Had to think for a while whether I wanted to hatch any more at all when gamebird starter went up two dollars a bag (and may go up still more!)
