Set Eggs 07-02-11 Anyone else

here is my July 4th egg... hatched overnight, early this morning

As of lunch time when I ran home...I already had 2 in the brooder....2 were runnin around in the bator and one was zipping... 6 left... we will see if I have any more when I get home this afternoon...

Well I ended up with 3 out of 24 not a good hatch at all. And to top it all off one of the died just a few minutes ago. My 4 year old looked in brooder and said "Dad one of the chicks is dead." and sure enough it was.

This morning, I picked up the last egg in the incubator to get rid of it, and it peeped at me. I put it back.

3 out of 5 silkies (local eggs) hatched on day 21 (sat).

0 for 15 shipped maran eggs so far. Today is day 24. Did the float test on day 23 and saw some wobbles but its not looking good. Total bummer on the shipped eggs.

I candled the two remaining silkies and one was clear and the other appeared to have stopped early. After opening it, it was further along than I thought but appeared to have died during lockdown.

Even though the shipped eggs haven't done great, I'm super happy about the new little silkies. One of them even came out with furry legs and feet. Super cute.

Most of the eggs hatched on Saturday, but a couple of eggs had been under a broody hen who wasn't very reliable for a while, so they were delayed.

The last chick hatched yesterday. I've lent my incubator to a friend. There will be no more hatching eggs until next spring....
