Set Eggs 07-02-11 Anyone else

I candled last night too (7 days) and there R a few I can't see as the shells R dark but of all that I can see all seem good but 2. I have 30 eggs in bator.

I won't be candling Bettys' eggs. I get the evil eye everytime I go near her. I'm not even sure how many eggs she has, as I can't catch her off the nest. Last time I was able to look she had 9.

Today 11:14 amThe boys and I candled last night. 22 or 24 for sure going good. 2 of them I am not sure of but not ready to give up yet.

I hate giving up on eggs too. Just went into lockdown in the incubator, and left 3 I probably should have tossed, but who knows, they may hatch.

I put a different hen on the ten eggs not in the mini incubator. They're probably too old, but they're Appenzeller Spitzhauben eggs, and I couldn't bring myself to throw them out. She settled right down with a wide eyed glazed look. I'm just sorry I wasted a week putting the other hen on them, but she'd been broody soooooo long, I thought she'd be desperate to do the job

We lost all of ours over the weekend. I am bummed. I had purchased a soft dog kennel and put it out in the coop so that my BO that was sitting could stay out in the coop by all the others, but yet be safe and seperated. Well, over the weekend (Saturday night) we found that something ransacked our coop. In one of our window screens there was a 1 1/2 inch hole chewed in it and same in the soft dog crate. Our chickens were upset and there must have been quite the commotion as our horse was even spooked. The nest was all pulled apart and the eggs were all cracked open and eaten out but shells left. Somewhere in the bottom of the coop and some where even taken outside in front of the coop, eaten, and left the shells. What could this have been?

My hen was up to roost last night. I am afraid it scared her and she won't sit anymore. I put some golf balls in one of the nesting boxes- what should I do to see if she will sit?

I think Betty's give up on setting

. She has been off the nest 2 1/2 hours now. 9 pretty clean eggs, she sat on a week. I went into lockdown yesterday so I can't put them in my incubator. As hot as it is right now I don't think they are in trouble yet. Thinking about putting them in the dehydrator with a bowl of water,

. I know it won't work, but can't think of anything else that holds a steady temp. Any ideas for fast home made incubators?

Update: Betty is back on the nest. Between the time I posted, and watered the rabbits, she decided break was over. It was a long break, and it made me realize I do need a back up plan in case her next break is permanant.I wouln't have put them in the dehydrator, I was just brainstorming. So what would you guys do in an emergancy, if you didn't have a bator on hand?

Sorry to hear that! A weasel got my neighbor's eggs in the same fashion, which surprised me because I didn't even know we had weasels here. Since then I've seen the little bugger, and I worry about my own coop. I guess they frequently live next to rivers.

I candled last night (day 11 for me), and things look good. I started with 19, removed 1 cracked and 3 clear. The remaining 15 were all wiggling around! I am disappointed about the 3 clear, as they were from the most beautiful EE hen I've ever seen. Maybe she's just too good for the rooster
