Set eggs 3/17.... Anyone else?

slap my fingers please!!! I know it is to early to candle but I just couldn't help myself,,,, all I seen though was a dark spot at the end of the eggs, atleast they looked different than the day I put them in. I may be to impatient for this.

Hi there! I'm participating in the Easter Hatchalong, but will share here, too. I set 24 eggs on Saturday around 1 PM. I was supposed to do it at noon, but was working in the garden and got distracted dividing strawberry runners from their parent plants.

I set 13 silver Ameraucana hatching eggs from another ABC member. Some were pullet eggs, so they may not hatch. I tossed in a couple of EEs from my own pen and enough Jersey Giant eggs to make it up to 24, the maximum capacity of my incubator. My own EEs might end up Olive Eggers. I had my black and blue Ameraucana hens in a mixed pen that got visited by a buff Ameraucana and a rather active Wheaten Marans while out ranging in the yard. They were supposed to be "clean" so I could put my black Ameraucana in with them, but oh well. It'll be a fun experiment to see what comes of them.

Welcome Oldchurcheggery1, the more the merrier! It sound slike you are going to have a variety of chicks.
I had to laugh TinaSwarr, i have the luck of working at home, right next to the incubators, and was just wondering if I would see anything if I candled yet ( what is it? 5 days?) planned on candling this weekend. I am guessing it will be hard to see in the BCM...

Woohoo, just candled a couple eggs for kicks and I can see veins.
I know, I know, dont count your chickens before they hatch, but woohoo!!

Just put in the egg turner, and a small computer fan on a repeat cycle timer. Fan goes on for 30 seconds off for a minute. May play around with that for a bit but noticing that the temp comes up and steady fast compared to no fan and opening to hand turn eggs.

Now just for the fun of sharing I will retype the included directions for candling that came with the new egg turner. It is a Farm Innovations Model 3200.Be sure to wash and sanitize hands prior to to removal of eggs for candling.

Instructions for Egg Candling:
1. For white or clear-shelled eggs, candle around the 3rd or 4th day of incubation and then again around the 14th day. For dark-shelled eggs, candle around the 7th or 8th day of incubation and then again around the 14th day.
2.Darken room and remove eggs one at a time. Hold large end of egg against candle light. Look thru side of egg and slowly turn in your hand.
3.If you observe a mass, dark object, or cloudy spot, this means that a live and growing embryo is inside.You may also see a pinkish color inside the contents of the egg. If the embryo is dead, the egg contents should appear brown or muddy. Also, if light can pass thru the egg completely. then assume the egg is not fertile. Remove it from the incubator as infertile eggs can transmit bacteria affecting the hatch.
4.Repeat with remainder of eggs, not allowing eggs to be outside of the incubator for more than 10-15 minutes.

It's fun getting new stuff.

I just candled my eggs!!!! I had three blood rings and three clears but the rest have gains and a lot of them even have movement! It was amazing! I had all my children around in awe... I should note, my kids are getting older so it takes a lot to interest them!

I set my eggs today... Well yesterday since it is after midnight... Anyway, this is my first hatch!!!!! I am so excited! I was hoping to find others that also set around the same time so we can compare notes along the way.

I set Lavender Orpingtons in a hovabator genesis 1588 with automatic egg turner. I have more eggs coming in the mail but since the weekend hit, I will not get them until Monday at the earliest. I had to get these in so I guess I will have a staggered hatch.

Theses Lavender Orpington eggs are my own eggs. I have 7 pullets that just started laying a coup,e weeks ago. I cracked open eggs until I finally got fertile eggs. Crossing my fingers that these are good eggs.

Anyone out there wanna be hatch buddies?

There are over 265 of us over there that set 11, 187 eggs.

I candled my Yokohama eggs this morning and all look good, with veins and all. The one little silky egg was not fertile ( i have yet to hatch a silkie

)
The cooper marans are too dark, but they passed the smell test..

How are the rest of you??

I didn't want to be the only one left posting here after the 265 comment of another thread seemed to shake this thread , so thanks for posting. I feel better hearing you could not see in dark eggs either. The smell test is the only thing I am using as the candling with a flashlight made me think I'm just not that bright or looking at a crystal ball and just not seeing the future. My EE eggs just don't show light. They are a heavy shell. Will try again with more power. I have one hen that just started acting broody so I am leaving here with six eggs and see what goes. The Silkie egg must have been a real David in the Goliath pen with those Moran eggs, to bad it's a no go. I would like to try Silkies on the next hatch as they are something I have always wanted. The local farm stores have mixed run Banties but no Silkies. How do you find the Moran's get along with the others? Where does one find Yokohama eggs? I have more questions but will limit to a few at a time. I still like smaller threads on forums.
