Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

Probably not what others will advise but I would open for just a moment and mist. I am on lockdown and my thermometer got tipped over and I think the humidity was about 61 but couldnt see for sure. I opened it and straightened it up and had a misting bottle with very warm water so as to replace the heat lost too. Was only open for maybe 10 seconds , tops. After the misting, the humidity went up to 82 and I had to pull out the plugs for a bit to bring it back down. About two hours later I was walking by bad aw a baby kick out of the shell. I have about 7 pips nd one baby

Well, as long as they are not pipped they shouldn't get shrink rapped, right? Thx, I'll probably have to do that.

Update, 22 in the incubator now and still piping. And 21 BCM in my tote here at home now. They where hatched from a local breeder. Yes I'm chick happy

I meant to put this up when I joined the hatch along, but here is the calender I use for every time I set a clutch of eggs (chicken):

This is great! I'll be saving it to my computer!

Good morning,
I got my pack of Velcro 'One-Wrap' straps last night. They were just $2.97. I cut them down in size (about in half) and should get about 5 legbands out of each color. The only problem is the chicks DO NOT LIKE THEM ON THEIR LEGS -at all! He went around limping and biting at it. The other chicks also pecked at it, so I removed it. (I did like how it was pretty easy to attach and remove.) I don't think it was too tight -more of a neusance? Should I just band them all and give them more time? Maybe chicks do this with ALL legbands?

Today is Day7 and Day14 for my eggs. Just a week away from new babies....and 2 weeks away for more new babies. I'm trying to figure out what to use for a bigger brooder for the new hatchlings. I have the feeling the (5) Easter Egger chicks will be pretty good flyers so I want something with higher sides. And, If all 13 Silkies hatch, they'll need more space. This is what I have now and have used in the past....It has worked fine for up to 6 chicks. I wish I could find a big box like from a freezer or lawn mower. Or I could build something out of plywood, but I hate spending money. Anyone have some better ideas?

It's just a big container.

And, with the 4 silkie babies inside...

Well I now have 6 out. 5 EE's and 1 blue copper maran. All the chicks so far look blue. I have a few more I see poking out of the shells. Having thick shells on my eggs didn't help them lol.

I have a pip on one of my 3/4 eggs!

Cute babies and great news on the pips! I didn't set until the 7 so I still have a few days before I get any babies.

Peach, that is so addicting watching the hatching-cam! I was hoping to see one of the chicks come rolling out of that one carton that is tilted so steep-wow! Looks like you'll have a brooder full of cute babies.

What kind of chicks are they?

Yea I'm waiting for the one at the very top to roll out it is close to flipping it's top. I put a splash Maran over Ameraucanas, EE's ,1 black copper maran and 1 silver laced giant cochin. The kids wanted some from their pet cochin Pookey. So just a mix of EE's with 2 blue copper marans so far and looks like 2 cochin mixes. I pick them up on monday. I cant wait to see them up close. I wat to know how many have feathered feet! I been watching them off and on since 3pm friday. Better than watching some of the junk on tv.

Hey Calichick I was in your part of town over the Christmas holidays. Hubby is from Chico. We drove from TN to CA with a 4 and 5 year old in the car. Took for ever but we did a lot of sight seeing.

WOW.........I commend you! I bet it was beautiful. There are so many places to visit along the way. (We want to visit Yellowstone) My DH and I have often talked about taking a cross country vacation. My parents live in Ohio, so it would be a good long drive for us too. Big difference is that we only have one very independant 10 year old son-LOL-no little ones! We fly home about every other year because it is so much quicker.

Why do you have the crates tilted like that? That is really interesting. I am trying hatching in crates this time too, but I left mine flat on the floor.

Cali Chick.....I bought a Hovabator today. I got the Genesis. I'm tired of trying to figure this out! I also bought a still air to go with it for hatching in!!!!! I hope it will be here soon. I put 50 eggs in my homemade bator last night.....I WON THE COCHIN EGG AUCTION ON E-BAY TONIGHT!!!!!........I am getting ready to go Paypal for a dozen more lavendar bantam Ameraucanas - hope I end up with these things running out of my ears they're so hard to find!!!! (and the air cells are badly detached on the ones I received this week).....and I have bid on an auction that ends tomorrow at noon for some more cochin eggs that are the same color I just won!!!! I am going to get my cochin project off the ground this year. Now I just have to get the MF cochins and I am set with everything I want to work on. Man alive am I having fun.

Which brings me to another post I want to say to everyone and I don't mean this dorky! I'm so glad to have found so many great people and to have made so many new wonderful friends on BYC. My non-chicken friend came to my house tonight and was so negative and rude about chickens and the fact that I like them. She told me she thought I need to take care of the ones I have and don't I have like nine zillion and she claimed my Rhode Island Reds had multiplied. I do take care of my chickens, very good care of them. I have less than 70 all over the place and I don't think that is that many, especially since a lot of them are babies and there are several I already know I will rehome and some I will keep for pets and the others will hopefully make beautiful babies to sell the eggs from. Our Reds provide us with fresh eggs everyday and we sell some of the eggs every week to help pay for the food. My friend was here and she didn't even know I was on e-bay winning the auction. I didn't even have the heart to tell her. If I got on here and told my chicken friends, people would be so excited. So that's enough of that...I just wanted to say what a great idea this forum is!
Oh, and no cheeps, no pips, no zips, no rocks. I feel sick because I'm already worried I have killed the chicks again. I took out my special Buttercup egg and put it under my best broody hen this morning. I felt like she had a better chance of being its momma than I did. So if that one at least can make it, I will be happy.......and then I will be able to put my eggs in my brand new Hovabator

Yes, but it seems like everyone else has something going on and so I feel certain I have killed them again. Trying not to let the thought of it get me down. Of course, it will be great if they hatch. I already have something to do with the chicks and it would be wonderful to be able to follow through. I can't decide if I want to keep the Red chicks or not. I would like to have a little bit layer flock as we are now running out of eggs. Some days we don't even get any to eat around here....we've become egg junkies!
And then if I knew my bators worked I wouldn't have to worry about where to put these next eggs. I have 50! in the bator right now, with two dozen more coming next week and hopefully make that another dozen on top of that.
I am going to keep my humidity a little lower this time. I feel like the air cells are too big.
I'm off to the barn to go check my Buttercup baby. Hopefully it is still alive and getting ready to be born.
