Set eggs 5/18 - whose with me?

I'm also working on a staggered hatch. I set the last 3 1/2 dozen on the 17th (including 4 under my broody hen). I had a total of 87 eggs at start. Lost 1 a couple days ago to a bloodring. 1 that had arrived cracked & I sealed with wax started leaking & it went. I dropped another while turning & cracked it, so it's sealed with wax...we'll see how that goes.

I have eggs set to hatch almost everyday from May 31st to June 14th with 13 duck eggs in the mix (3 aren't developing due to various reasons...so that leaves 10), 2 Black East Indies, 1 runner, 2 saxony, 5 calls.

As for chicken eggs, I set a total of 8 of my own (1 under the broody so don't know WHAT it's doing), 1 had a bloodring in the 1st week, 5 are clear (my roo is pretty young yet) and 1 tiny little banty egg has a dancing baby in it. I set 8 Silkies, 2 are clear, 6 dancing babies. I have 3 Americunas, 1 clear, 1 too dark to see inside & 1 dancing baby. 1 Partridge Rock, 1 Partridge Cochin & 1 Blue Cochin...all 3 clear. Of the 12 Lemon Cuckoo Orps less than 1/2 seem to have development.

As for the batch set on 5/17, it included 4 Banty BYM under my broody (1 is mine mentioned above), 18 BYM & project bird eggs (1 of these was the leaker I tried to seal with wax), 12 Lavender Orps, 4 assorted Orps, 2 Coronation Sussex.

My 1st 3 days for hatch should be 1 tiny mixed banty from my girls, 6 Silkies, and possibly 2 Ameracunas scheduled between the 30th to the 1st. The 12 LCO are scheduled for the 3rd. Everything set on the 17th plus the Calls is due the 7th. 2 Saxonies & 1 runner due on the 8th & the last 2 little BEI due on the 14th.

I'll be amazed if I get a 50% hatch rate, but that really wouldn't be bad considering the majority of the eggs were shipped & this is my 1st hatch EVER

Wow... That's pretty ambitious.

I did a little preliminary candling and at 4 days I have at least 4 of the mille fleurs d'uccles showing nice veins/spider spots. I also set 3 of my barnyard mixes so my friend's baby girl could experience chicks without me having to give away chicks from a breed I paid money for. All of those look good so far as well.

I'm on staycation till tuesday, can't wait to see what I can get into between now and then. :)

I sure hope I can keep my hands off these eggs till Sat. night. This will be 7 days, I so want to see what I have in there. There is also another hatch along you all could join. The Fathers Day Hatch a Long. Setting started last weekend and runs through the 3rd. Check it out if you haven't seen it.

Ooooh goodness I really want to candle some eggs. Guess it's time to put my boots on and truck on outside to harrass some broody hens! Gotta check the guinea eggs and the SSH eggs...

i candled last night and got 1 blood ring for sure. and 5 clear eggs. the rest i couldn't tell. they looked like dark misshapen blobs. my guess is that is development. i am on day 6. left the possible duds till day 10. i will throw them out then.

after i was finished, my bator started flickering the light and i was afraid it would quit on me. so i put the eggs in my back up/hatcher. i rewired bator 1 and let the eggs sit in bator 2 over night. i woke up 7 hours later to temps at 109 in bator 2. so i think i killed the rest of my eggs now. but i will still check them all on day 10. the eggs are back in the bator 1 for the rest of the time. the lights are not flickering anymore and the temps are still staying at 100 ish. bummer...

the mail just came. i have more eggs waiting on me at the post office. staggering my eggs. not by plan... these eggs were expected at the same time, unfortunately, the hens were not laying as good as was predicted. so they are 1 week apart. i don't fault any seller for that.

it is what it is...

so here's to anything and everything...lol

Well my royal palm eggs arrived today. No more stalking the mail man, now I will be stalking a broody turkey hen!

Until then, here's some eye candy...

Proud daddy of more than half of the eggs in my incubator right now. Ignore messy pen... Took it during pen clean out!

He is gorgous and I bet he knows it. What kind of bird is he?
15 of the 17 chucker eggs were going strong on day 6 candleing. Cant seen anything in the other two or in any of the pheasnt eggs but Im gonna candle them tonight again day 7-8 depending on if you count day 1 as the day you set or the day after I guess. If I still cant see anything I may open them to see if they were fertel to begin with.

The picture does him no justice, really. He is abnormally shiney and has quite a sheen to him. So many different colors. He's a butcher, as is the hen. I TOTALLY lied to myself when I said he was a hatch. Just got my hands on the breeder books, his tags and hers match up to a pair of Butchers. He was hatched in '09, this is the hens first breeding season. Then hen has Hatch in her back ground... So now I have to call a few people and tell them the birds I wasn't sure on that I thought were hatch are actually butchers. Should've known with those yellow legs and white in the hackles... Hatch don't have yellow legs, they have slate legs. I'm getting slate and yellow legged birds from these two which means someone has either blue or hatch in their back ground... I really REALLY think the hen has hatch in hers...

Haven't candled eggs yet, haven't had time. Been running around like I've had my head cut off.
