Power failure hit at 1:10am........temp in bator by 2:20 am was 75f.

Hubby and I wrapped the bator in quilts (we have a large sportsman cabinet bator)
Hubby was running extension cords fromthe bator to a portable batteryand from the portable battery to my van we pulled up onto the lawn.
We could only maintain about 82f

First two chicks started hatching at 5:30am
Power came back on at 6:30 am had the temp back up by 8am

first two hatched (cute lil fuzzbuttz) 9 more pipped

Power went off again at 9am, repeated everything (quilts, battery) for another 3 hours.

Power back on about noon, so far so good....waiting on the rest of the eggs.....

I'm exhausted

How long can the hatchlings stay in the bator? I have three hatched and 30 or so to go..about 10 are pipped. The first hatchlings have been in there about 8 hours.

How long until I have to take them out for food and water?

Yay! Congrats on your new babies!

I've seen where a lot of people pul out fluffed chicks quickly and spritz some warm water inside while they do it? I've never tried this. My hatches always seem to happen fairly simultaneously, or there's a break, but my hatches are usually pretty small.

My hatch enters day 20 at noon. So excited!

Happy to hear they're hatching even though you had the power go out! Last time mine all of mine pipped at once and they would hatch in little groups of three or so. It was 48 hours from the time the first one hatched until the last one to hatched so I just opened it real fast and took them out once there were a couple dried off in there. The humidity got back up in the proper range fairly quick.

I put mine into lockdown this morning. I had to leave for work and didn't get a chance to see the humidity level reach its peak, I just took out the dividers and filled up the wells. I stuffed some cloth in there to increase the surface area, last time that helped get the humidity high enough. Hopefully my DH is checking it throughout the day.

Sounds like my first hatch, sorry to say..... but I was much less successful. My incubator went out at 10pm at night, and all I could use was a heat lamp I had.... :( They did not make it to the next day, and none of them hatched. I'm glad yours are doing better!

I've had my first broody hen in about 3 years :D She's my new hen. She suddenly started getting broody three days back!!! :D Her eggs are due around May 12th *happy dance*
