Sparrker, I have had alot of people tell me to wait and candle at day 10. Having said that a good friend of mine told me to not candle untill day 18 when I'm putting them in the hatcher? I guess everyone has there own opinion but he told me to look at it like this everytime you open/close open/close the incubator you lose 1 egg? I know this is not a 100% accurate just a way to look at it. I also know the waiting kills us myself included but for my first time incubating I'm going to let mother nature take it's course. - the incubator ofcoarse. I will be waitng untill day 18 to candle I hope.

smchickfarm, Thank you very much! I really like them aswell if you ever need eggs let me know? I have Blue Laced Red Wyandotte's,Gold Laced Brahma's and I also have a quad (4) Buff Laced Brahma chicks in the brooder so it will be about another 8-9 months before those start laying. Just an FYI for everybody the Brahma's are late layers most not laying untill around 8-9 months old.

sparrker, Ideal humidity for incubating is 40-50% and Ideal temp is 100 degrees but having the 1588 you don't need to worry about the temp. I will give everyone a run down of what I have learned from friends and farmers that have been incubating and hatching for years. P.S I'm new myself so just learning but here it goes= Let your incubator warm up (Come Up To Temp 99 to 100) for about 24 to 48hrs before you set the eggs just to make sure the temp is holding like it should. If using a Hova-Bator any model fill the #1 tray (Right Side) looking at incubator all the way to the top but dont over fill. It will take a little while to build up the humidity but once you do it should stay between 40-50% you will need to refill it every 2-3 days. On the 18th day remove the turner,candle if you like (I will be) and fill both #1 and #2 trays with water (Both Right and Left Side) and this will bring the humidity up to 60-70% which is Ideal for hatching. Your temp should stay the same at 100 degrees. Also remember with adding water it's not the depth that counts it's the surface area meaning the more trays/areas you fill with water the higher the humidity will get. I would never recommend going over 75% humidity while hatching you could drown the chicks when they peck threw the shell. Like I said earlier 40-50% for Incubating and 60-70% while hatching. My friend said he had a 100% loss his first 2 hatches trying to dry incubate. I really hope this helps.

Yay!!! Eggs!! So exciting!! I set 23 in my bator on 3/18. Took all the bantam eggs I had collected over the week and set them! I am sooooo excited!

ok, so I am home and I just candled my eggs........couldn't see any veining

but I think I am just expecting too much too soon plus they are brown eggs and hard to see..............

so I will wait till Friday and candle again....................

Hey guy and gals my computer has been down at work. Just got caught up on all the posts. smchick wish you had seen something in your eggs. Fingers crossed for you for next candling Thanks for all the great tips from everyone so far. I really appreciate it. I have been adding a little water every day to keep my humidity at 40 %. I attached a 1 foot piece of that tubing (like for oxygen tanks) to a 20 cc syringe and have been adding my water thru the vent hole on top of the bator. That way I have not opened the incubator one time yet. I have left the single red vent plug out so far and the humidity and temp are holding steady. Don't know if I'm making a mistake or not but seems to be holding steady And that setting by the moon thing is really neat. Maybe we will all have excellent hatches because of that alone. Fingers crossed for everyone.......
