I'm using a Hova-Bator...... A friend of mine has let me borrow it. I've been trying to decide if I wanted to put the money into buy one so I thought I would borrow one and see if I enjoyed it. As excited as I am I know now that I will have a bator of my own soon. But I'm leaning more towards a homemade bator.

Keep me posted on your hatch.....

I set my first batch ever today, the 31st. I pegged my hatch date for the 21st. I'm using a homemade incubator made from a Sterlite container. The temp is stable at 100 degrees and I'm attempting dry incubation since I am in FL. I hope they all do well! I have 6 BLRW, 4 SLW, and 3 cochins.

Fivestring - I am also doing something similar, only with syringe and through a little turning flap.

Good luck to everyone! Is this where candling updates will be posted?

Yes, I plan on updating anything that happens with mine right here for the duration of the incubation and hatch.

So, Speckledpullet, does that mean you are not adding ANY water to the incubator until lockdown? I have been adding just a little bit to mine each day and it is hanging around 38-50% so far. I am not far from Florida in South Georgia so it's not really low humidity here like it would be in the Northern colder states.

We set 4 eggs on Jan 27th so our hatch date should be around Feb 17th. This is our 1st attempt at hatching eggs. We are testing our homemade incuabtor and also the fertility of our bantam rooster (possible EE). Our hen is a blue bantam EE.

We candled last night and could see veins in all 4 eggs.

Our temp is staying between 99.5 to 101.8 and the humidity is between 27% to 45%. We have a tube on the outside going into the incubator to add water into the pan when needed so that we aren't opening up the lid. We also made a turner so we can turn the eggs from the outside as well.

Good luck to everyone else!

I bought another digital temp/humidity gauge at Walmart today ($6.42). I was getting very different readings from the digital one I had just bought off Ebay when compared to the little thermometer Little Giant included with the egg turner. There was a difference of 2-3°, the new digital one coming in on the low side.

So I stuck the new one in and it coincides with the little plain thermometer from LG. Well, it looks like I was running a little hot since Saturday, probably 101-102°. I hope it isn't too late for these eggs! I guess I will find out in a few more days when I candle for the first time. I might be starting over from scratch! Grrrr

went to the incubator and one of my Blue wheatn amerucana eggs was weeping! nasty! put it in a ziplock bag and threw it out hopefully i didn't contaminate the other eggs. What makes an egg go bad?

I set 38 eggs on Jan 30. Should be hatching Feb 20.

Eggs included a bunch I picked up from local breeders:

12 EEs from Amanda
12 Golden Cuckoo Marans from pasofinofarm
6 Black Copper Marans from pasofinofarm
8 of my Sunshine eggs (she's a RIR in my flock)

Eggs are in my Little Giant bator.
