Excited...I just hatched the most beautiful little black with cream colored chest duckling (well, I think they are ALL most beautiful, lol). Its a Indian Runner/Blue Swedish cross. Unfortunately so far the other 5 eggs from this particular hatch dont look like they are doing anything but I am going to give it the weekend. I am setting up a small brooder for the little one right now.

I have Pekin/Blue Swedish due, I think the 5th (have it written down) and the Indian Runner crosses from my aunt due May 11th.
My older ducks are two big to put this duckling in with so with any luck, one more will hatch with him or their will be one from the next two hatches he can have as a buddy.
How is everyone else doing with incubating??

Just set 8 guinea eggs and keeping my fingers crossed!

I have some eggs on lockdown right now. Four Pilgrim goose eggs, so I am almost positive that two of them arent viable.

Also, mixed eggs, white cochin bantam eggs and the end of this week, silkie eggs.
Hope everyone else is having luck with incubating!

I had two more Bantam Cochins hatch last Thursday:

And I have Indian Runner ducklings hatching right now. They started hatching the day before lockdown was supposed to begin (no idea what happened, they're in the same Octagon 20 incubator that's been running for two months straight now and has had 4 normal hatches so far, Brinsea Spot-Check thermometer verifies that the temperature is correct and stable...) and I think I lost two that got shrink-wrapped and suffocated.

I started with 8 eggs, right now I have 2 ducklings hatched (both have just-barely healed navels, and one had a bit of yolk left, but it smeared off on the incubator tray and the duckling looks okay), two eggs pipped, two eggs assumed dead, and two eggs that look a few days behind in development that may not hatch until the end of the week if they hatch at all.
hmm.png

This is the one hatch I've really been looking forward to all spring - these are the first eggs from my Indian Runner pair, and the duck only laid 14 eggs this year before I started doing some construction on the duck pens and she quit laying - I dunno when she'll start back up again, so these may be the only ducklings from her this year, and I have a waiting list of people wanting to buy the ducklings.

I added some bantam eggs to the incubator last Friday, and I suspect that caused a heat-spike, which is why the ducklings started hatching pre-maturely. The two that are out are the most gorgeous silvery-blue with a golden tinge - genetically, I believe they're both extended black with a brown, buff, and blue dilution. Pictures to come soon.

EDIT: - The only duckling that's out of the incubator is hanging out with those two Bantam Cochin chicks until some more ducklings are dried off. It's so cute how the duckling follows the chicks around, and the chicks curl up around the duckling to sleep. They're really all quite fond of one another!

The duckling photographs much darker-colored than it actually is - it's the prettiest color I've ever seen, the picture doesn't do it justice!

Congrats on your bantam cochins and duckling! That duckling is a cutie....lol, yours is in with chicks, I have a lone duckling (no others hatched out of those eggs) that is in with coturnix quail.
smile.png

However, I have a Pilgrim goose egg pipping!!!!!!!!!
wee.gif
That might make a better buddy for him than the coturnix.
Not sure how its going to go but I am sure hoping it hatches without any problems. The bad thing I found out about goose eggs last year is the amount of time they take to hatch!

The gosling is out!!! He/she is a bit darker in color.(Pilgrim) Pretty noisy thus far, lol.

According to what people have told me, the little gosling looks to be a female.
smile.png

She will at least have some chick buddies because my mixed eggs from kathyinmo and H Buehler are hatching!!!

Quite a few pips and one little chick from a green egg out.

I ended up with 4 Indian Runner ducklings. The rest of the eggs are still in the incubator, but assumed dead.

Here are the beauties I ended up with though (still hanging out with the chicks; why run another heat lamp if I don't have to?

) - I'm 99.98% certain they're all girls!

And lets see now...I have some mixed-breed brown layer chicks due 5/11, some Silkies, Polish, Japanese, and Cochin eggs (from the April Egg Swap) due 5/14, the turkey eggs (and a few of my Dark Campbell duck eggs) are due 5/18, and ten more of my duck eggs (pure Dark Campbells and some Hookbill crosses) due 5/23.

I got an egg from my Indian Runner duck yesterday (the first one in almost a month!), but none today, so I'm crossing my fingers she gives me an egg tomorrow and keeps laying so that I can get another batch of her eggs going!

Maybe I'll try my hand at goose eggs next spring! It seems like an awful long wait though - I'm impatient.

LOL, I know what you mean about running one heat lamp for them all for a while. Last year I had goslings, ducklings and chicks in the same brooder for a bit.
smile.png

Oooooo...those Indian Runner ducklings are gorgeous!!! I just have the one lone Indian Runner/Blue Swede mix (and the older two ducklings born in Feb. not IRs though). I have a lot of Indian Runner mix eggs due the 11th and my aunt is wanting to bring out more because people have been asking about getting ducks.
I also have a few Pekin/Blue Swede ducks due the 5th.
So far, a lot of pips from the mixed eggs, and another chick out, from a very dark egg this time. If I get some layers from these and between the ones I have, I will have lots of different egg colors.
smile.png

Nothing from the peacock egg (didnt have my hopes up on that one since the box it arrived in smashed the other two eggs), white cochins or pheasants. Not giving up just yet but I was especially hoping for the cochins. I will try again.
I have mottled cochins due the same day as my Indian Runner mix ducks so maybe will get a better hatch from those.
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose!

13 baby chicks out of the mixed incubator and one more almost out. I THINK the hatching is done for that incubator but we will see....
