Set My First Test Hatch of BBS and Buff Orps- Pics!

I did not dub him. Before I owned him his points froze off. Looking at my other Orp roosters though, he makes a good case for dubbing up here in the frozen North. I don't think I have the stomach for it though.

I have a hard time doing those things that have to be done too.

At what point should you dub a rooster's comb. If I knew what point it needed it, I could probably do it. I've taught myself that by teaching myself how to process chickens, ducks and quail and by learning how to cull chicks. If it needs done, I can get past the "stomaching" part, I just don't know at what point I need to do it.

How exciting for you-your first BBS Orps from your very own birds! You must be thrilled!

Wishing you the best of luck with those.

Oh, and your birds are just beautiful, by the way. I love that buff Orp roo.

Thanks for the compliments. I am pretty excited to test hatch these eggs. I won't be able to get enough to sell until later this spring when I will have two more pullets laying, but I am interested to see what I get from this pairing.

That Buff Orp rooster is an outstanding rooster. When I got him he was going into a molt and looked terrible. Now that his feathers have come in good he looks better all the time. He is a good protector but smart enough to realize that people are not a threat.
